Men's underwear is four garments on two different blocks. Woven boxer shorts are cut like a loose short with a fly; boxer briefs, trunks and briefs are close fitting knits with a shaped pouch, and differ mainly in leg length. A boxers and briefs manufacturer in Bangladesh has to run fine stretch jersey, exposed elastic and small seams at volume, then pack it into multipacks without mixing a size.
Garments Hub BD sends knit styles to two underwear plants on its bench and woven boxers to plants that sew light shirting, and asks both to quote the waistband elastic as a separate line, because a custom jacquard band can carry its own minimum. Inspection counts colours and sizes in each pack, not only the garments.
Kinds of boxers and briefs
Woven boxer shorts
Loose shorts in cotton poplin, oxford or yarn dyed check, with a button or open fly and a covered or exposed elastic waist. Choose them for comfort and for print or check stories.
Boxer briefs
Close fitting knit with a longer leg, typically 10 to 15 cm inseam, a shaped pouch and a flat leg hem. The core of most men's ranges; the leg stops chafing in sport and under trousers.
Trunks
The same close fit with a short leg, typically 5 to 8 cm inseam, and a lower rise. Choose them for a fashion led range and for wearers who want less fabric at the thigh.
Briefs
No leg, cut high at the hip, with a pouch or a Y front fly and elastic or bound leg openings. Choose them for classic and value ranges and lower priced multipacks.
How to specify boxers and briefs
- Waistband
- Exposed jacquard elastic with a woven or knitted logo, usually 3 to 5 cm wide; covered elastic wrapped in self fabric; or plush back elastic with a brushed inner face.
- Fabric
- Cotton elastane, usually 95 percent cotton and 5 percent elastane; modal elastane for a cooler, smoother hand; or micro polyester elastane for sport. State the GSM.
- Pouch construction
- Contoured pouch with a centre seam, a horizontal or vertical fly, or a plain front, and whether the pouch is double layered.
- Leg length and hem
- Inseam for boxer briefs and trunks, and the leg finish: coverstitched, bonded or elastic. A tight leg hem rides up; a loose one rolls.
- Seams
- Flatlock or coverstitch on every seam that touches skin, and never a plain overlock left exposed inside the pouch.
- Multipack
- Pack count, colour assortment and sizes per pack, and the box, sleeve or hanger card each pack ships in.
Tests to ask a boxers and briefs manufacturer in Bangladesh for
- OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100
- Underwear sits against the skin all day, so ask for a product class II certificate covering fabric, elastic and printed labels, not only the main jersey.
- ISO 105-C06
- Colour fastness to washing, including staining. A black jacquard waistband washed with a white body must not stain it, so test band and body as they will be sewn.
- ISO 5077
- Shrinkage of cotton elastane through ISO 6330 wash cycles. A boxer brief that shrinks in length rides up the thigh, so ask for figures in both directions.
What moves the price of boxers and briefs
- A custom jacquard waistband with a logo is developed and ordered separately, with its own minimum.
- Modal elastane costs more per kilo than cotton elastane, which lifts the price of every piece.
- A shaped pouch with a fly adds pieces and sewing time over a plain front.
- Printed boxes for multipacks cost more to pack than polybagged single pieces.
- Yarn dyed checks for woven boxers cost more than solid poplin.
Lead time for boxers and briefs
A custom logo waistband adds days at the start, because the jacquard elastic is woven or knitted to order and approved before the first sample. With the elastic ready, underwear samples fall in the 7 to 14 day window and bulk usually follows 30 to 60 days after PP approval. Printed multipack boxes also need artwork approval early. The quote states each factory's dates.
What we check on boxers and briefs before shipment
- Waistband stretch and recoveryWaistband stretched to an agreed length, held, released and measured, to confirm it returns close to its relaxed size.
- Pouch and inside seamsPouch shape symmetric, fly openings aligned, and inside seams flat with no exposed overlock against the skin.
- Leg openingsLeg opening measured relaxed and stretched in each size, and leg hems checked for rolling or waving.
- Pack assortmentPacks opened at random to check colour order, size and count against the multipack spec.
Questions buyers ask about boxers and briefs
Exposed or covered waistband?
An exposed jacquard band shows the brand name and reads as fashion or sport underwear. A covered band, wrapped in the body fabric, is softer and quieter and suits value and classic ranges. Plush back elastic gives the exposed look with a brushed, softer face against the skin.
Cotton or modal for boxer briefs?
Cotton elastane is the everyday choice: breathable, easy to care for and lower in cost. Modal elastane is smoother and cooler and keeps its colour and softness through more washes, at a higher price. Many ranges run cotton in multipacks and modal as the step up.
Can the waistband carry my logo, and is there a minimum?
Yes. A woven or knitted jacquard elastic carries the logo, developed to your artwork and colours. The elastic is made to order with a minimum length of its own, so a small first order sometimes uses a printed band, or plain elastic with a woven label, instead.
How are underwear multipacks counted against the minimum?
The minimum is counted per colour of each style, so a three pack of black, grey and navy needs each colour to meet it. Ask both factories how they count assorted packs on the quote; packs that repeat one colour reach the minimum sooner.
