Leggings are sold on recovery and returned on opacity. If the fabric goes see through when it stretches, or bags out at the knee after a month, no amount of good sewing saves the order. Both are fabric decisions made before the first sample. This page covers the leggings we source, the knits the bench runs, and what to send us for a price in 48 hours.

We are a sourcing desk in Dhaka. We do not own a factory. Your enquiry goes to two knit plants from our bench that run elastane heavy fabric, you get both quotes with our read on which suits the order, and our own person is on the floor for the inline and the final inspection.

Leggings types we source

Cotton Leggings

Cotton elastane jersey, 200 to 260 GSM, covered elastic or self fabric waistband. The everyday item. Ask for the elastane percentage, because 5 percent and 8 percent behave differently after ten washes.

Sports Leggings

Nylon elastane or polyester elastane warp knit, 220 to 280 GSM, flatlock seams, gusset at the crotch. The gusset is not decoration, it is what stops the crotch seam failing when the wearer squats.

High Rise Leggings

Rise above the natural waist with a wider band, often with a power mesh inner panel at the front. The band is the whole garment here: too light and it rolls down, too heavy and nobody wears it twice.

Capri Leggings

Cropped at mid calf, hemmed or with a raw bonded edge. Say the inseam in centimetres, because mid calf is a different place on different people.

Full Length Leggings

Ankle length, hemmed with a coverstitch or bonded. The default, and the length to grade the others from.

Printed Leggings

Sublimated or digitally printed on polyester elastane. Sublimation needs polyester, so a printed cotton legging is a different and more limited process. Send the artwork as a repeat with the scale marked.

Maternity Leggings

Over bump or under bump band in a soft jersey with no hard elastic. Grade on hip rather than waist and say which band you want, because they are two different patterns.

Kids Leggings

Cotton elastane, lighter at 180 to 220 GSM, flat waistband with no cord. The market and age band decide the safety rules, so send both.

Fabric, opacity and recovery

Three numbers decide whether a legging is any good, and all three belong in your enquiry.

Weight. Below about 200 GSM a cotton elastane legging will go translucent when it stretches over the thigh. 220 to 260 GSM is where the volume sits for a reason. For a sports legging in nylon elastane, 240 GSM and up.

Elastane percentage. Five percent gives stretch. Eight to twelve percent gives stretch that comes back. Recovery, not stretch, is what a customer notices after a month, so ask for the elastane content and ask for a recovery test on the pre production sample.

Opacity. Ask for a stretched opacity check, not a flat one. The factory should stretch a cut sample to the pattern's design stretch and hold it against a light. A fabric that passes flat and fails stretched is the single most common legging complaint, and it is free to catch at sampling.

Squat test the sample. Put it on a form or a person, bend it, and look. Any plant that runs leggings properly will not be surprised by the request.

Waistband, gusset and seams

The waistband is either self fabric folded with elastic inside, a separate power mesh band, or a wide flat band in the same knit. Say which, and say the finished band depth. A band that is 2 centimetres shallower than the sample rolls.

The gusset is a diamond or a triangle panel at the crotch. It removes the four way seam intersection that fails first. Ask for it on anything sold for sport.

Seams should be flatlock or coverstitched, never plain overlock on the inseam. Overlock on a stretch garment at the inseam is what tears.

Sizing and grading

Leggings are graded with negative ease, which means the pattern is smaller than the body and the fabric makes up the difference. That only works if the grading accounts for the stretch, so send us your size chart with the waist relaxed and stretched, the hip, the front and back rise, the thigh, the inseam and the ankle opening, plus your tolerance.

We measure the pre production sample in the smallest size, the sample size and the largest size, and send you the numbers before bulk cutting starts. On leggings we also send the stretched waist measurement, because that is the one that decides whether the garment is wearable in the largest size.

Quality control

Inline inspection while the line runs. Final inspection to AQL 2.5 unless your standard differs, with the photo report before the goods move. On leggings we check stretched opacity on a cut sample, elastic recovery after repeated stretch, gusset presence and seam type, waistband depth against the spec, print register and scale on printed styles, and shade continuity between dye lots, because a legging order is usually one colour in volume and a shade break is obvious on a rail.

Compliance differs by plant. The factories on our bench hold different combinations of BSCI, Sedex, WRAP and OEKO-TEX. OEKO-TEX gets asked for on next to skin product, so tell us what your buyer requires and we will only quote plants that already hold it, with the certificate attached.
