Jeans are the one garment where the wash matters more than the sewing. Two factories can make the same pattern in the same denim and ship two different products, because the laundry is a separate business with its own skill. Approve the wash on a finished garment or you have approved nothing. This page covers the jeans we source, the denim the bench runs, and what to send us for a price in 48 hours.

We are a sourcing desk in Dhaka. We do not own a factory. Your enquiry goes to two denim plants from our bench, each with a laundry it works with, you get both quotes with our read on which suits the order, and our own person is on the floor for the inline and the final inspection.

Jeans and denim types we source

Straight Leg Jeans

Denim at 11 to 13 ounces, five pocket, zip or button fly. The block everything else is graded from and the safest first order with a new plant.

Slim Fit Jeans

Tapered from knee to hem, usually 10 to 12 ounces with 1 to 2 percent elastane so it moves. The knee measurement is the one buyers forget to specify and then reject.

Skinny Jeans

Close through the whole leg, 9 to 11 ounces with 2 percent or more elastane. Recovery matters as much as on a legging: without it the knee bags by the second wear.

Wide Leg Jeans

Full from the hip down, usually rigid or low stretch denim at 12 to 14 ounces so the leg hangs. A heavier denim is the point, so do not let the price push you to a lighter cloth here.

Mom Fit Jeans

High rise, slightly tapered, rigid or very low stretch. Rise and back pocket placement do all the work on this fit, so send the measurements rather than a reference photo.

Cargo Jeans

Denim with bellowed thigh pockets and flap closures. Priced above a five pocket because of the extra panels and the extra bar tacks.

Denim Shorts

Any of the above cut short, hemmed, turned up or raw. State the inseam and whether you want a raw edge, because a raw edge is a deliberate finish and not an unfinished one.

Denim Jacket

Trucker style, 10 to 12 ounces, chest pockets with flaps, adjustable waist tabs. It goes through the same laundry as the jeans, so quote them together and match the wash across both.

Denim, weight and stretch

Denim is specified by weight in ounces per square yard, by construction, and by stretch content. Nine ounces is light and drapes. Twelve is the everyday middle. Fourteen and up is heavy and rigid and it is what a wide leg or a workwear jean needs.

Stretch is added as elastane, sometimes with a recovery yarn behind it. One to two percent gives comfort. Three and up gives a jegging and a different garment. Ask for the recovery, not just the stretch: a denim that stretches and does not come back produces the knee bagging complaint, and it is measured, not guessed.

Selvedge, slub, ring spun and open end all change the surface and the price. If you want a specific hand, send a swatch. Denim is a cloth where a written description gets you close and a swatch gets you right.

The wash, where the garment is actually made

The laundry decides the colour, the hand and the character. The processes you can ask for:

• Rinse, the plainest finish, closest to raw
• Enzyme wash, softens and lifts the shade evenly
• Stone wash, abrades with pumice for a worn surface
• Bleach and ice wash, for lighter shades, with more variation between pieces
• Whiskers, sanding and grinding, applied by hand or laser to put wear where a body would put it
• Coating and resin, for a fixed crease or a glossy face

Two rules that save orders. First, approve the wash on a full garment, never on a swatch, because the wash behaves differently over a seam and a pocket. Second, agree a shade band, not a shade: a wash has natural variation, so approve a light and a dark limit and inspect against those. A buyer who approves one exact shade will reject half of a correct shipment.

Laser and ozone finishing use less water and are what most buyers now ask for. Say if that matters to you and we will quote only laundries that have the equipment.

Sizing and grading

Send your size chart with the waist, hip, front and back rise, thigh, knee, leg opening and inseam, plus the tolerance you accept. Jeans are measured after the wash, so the chart has to be post wash measurements and the pattern cut to allow the shrinkage. Ask the plant to confirm the shrinkage percentage it is cutting to.

We measure the pre production sample in the smallest size, the sample size and the largest size after washing and send you the numbers before bulk cutting starts.

Quality control

Inline inspection while the line runs. Final inspection to AQL 2.5 unless your standard differs, with the photo report before the goods move. On jeans we check the wash against the agreed shade band under a controlled light, post wash measurements against the chart, bar tacks at every stress point, rivet and button security, zip function on every sampled garment, seam strength at the inseam and seat, and crocking, which is the dye rubbing off onto a light sofa and the complaint nobody expects.

Compliance differs by plant and matters more in denim than most categories, because the laundry has its own water and chemical footprint. The factories on our bench hold different combinations of BSCI, Sedex, WRAP, OEKO-TEX and GRS. Tell us what your buyer requires and we will only quote plants and laundries that already hold it, with the certificate attached to the quote.
