Wool Coat Manufacturer in Bangladesh

A wool coat is the most expensive garment most brands buy from Bangladesh, and the one where the cloth is the majority of the cost. That changes how you should buy it: the conversation starts with the wool, not with the make. Wool coat types we source

Single Breasted Overcoat

Three or four button front, notch lapel, knee length, two flap pockets, centre or side vents. The block everything else grades from.

Double Breasted Overcoat

Six on two or six on three, peak lapel, wider overlap. It needs more cloth and a better canvas, because a double breasted front shows every weakness in the interlining.

Car Coat

Hip to mid thigh, straighter cut, often a patch pocket. Cheaper in cloth than a full overcoat and the easiest wool coat to sell into a mild market.

Duffle Coat

Toggle and loop front, hood, patch pockets, usually in a heavy melton. The toggles and the leather or rope loops are a trim conversation of their own, so nominate them.

Wool Blend Topcoat

Wool with polyester or viscose to bring the price down and the crease recovery up. Say the blend you will accept, because 50 percent wool and 80 percent wool feel different in the hand and on the invoice.

Boiled Wool Jacket

Knitted then felted wool, softer and more casual, no lining needed at the edges. A different make from a tailored coat and usually a lower price.

Wool Cape

No set sleeve, so the fit problem disappears and the drape problem replaces it. Grade on length and sweep rather than chest.

Kids Wool Coat

The same construction scaled, with the childrenswear rules applied. State the market and the age band, because cords and small parts are regulated.

The cloth, which is most of the price

Specify wool by fibre content, weight and finish, and get a swatch. A description alone will not do it on this cloth.

Fibre content. 100 percent wool, a wool polyester blend, a wool viscose blend, or wool with a small cashmere percentage. Cashmere at 5 or 10 percent changes the hand noticeably and the price sharply. Nylon at 2 or 3 percent adds tear strength on a light cloth.

Weight. 350 to 450 grams per metre is a topcoat. 450 to 600 is a proper winter overcoat. Melton for a duffle sits at the top of that range. A coat cut in cloth that is too light hangs badly and no pattern fixes it.

Finish. Melton is milled and dense with a smooth face. Flannel is brushed and softer. Herringbone and houndstooth are woven patterns, which means pattern matching at the centre back, the sleeve head and the pockets, and that costs cloth and cutting time. Say whether you require matching and to what tolerance.

Pilling and rub. Ask for the Martindale abrasion and the pilling result on the cloth. A soft handling wool that pills at the collar in one season is the most common wool coat complaint and it is a cloth property, not a make fault.

Construction: canvas, lining and the shoulder

A wool coat is tailoring. The three decisions that separate a coat that hangs from one that does not:

Front construction. Fully fused, half canvassed or fully canvassed. Fused is cheapest and can bubble after a wet season. Half canvas in the chest and lapel is the sensible middle and is what most good coats at this price use. Say which you want rather than accepting the default.

Lining. Viscose or bemberg is standard, polyester is cheaper and hotter, and a quilted lining adds warmth for a small cost. Say whether the sleeve lining differs from the body lining, and whether you want a hanging loop and an inside pocket.

Shoulder. Set in with a sleeve head roll, or raglan. A set in shoulder needs a pad and a head roll specified by weight, and that single detail is what makes a coat look tailored rather than assembled.

Sizing and grading

Send your size chart with the chest, waist, hip and sweep, shoulder width, sleeve length, back length and collar, plus the tolerance. Say whether the chart is for a coat worn over a jacket, because the ease is different and a coat graded on a shirt block will not close over a suit.

We measure the pre production sample in the smallest size, the sample size and the largest size and send you the numbers before bulk cutting starts. On a coat we also ask for the sample to be hung for 24 hours and re measured, because a heavy cloth drops.

Quality control

Inline inspection while the line runs. Final inspection to AQL 2.5 unless your standard differs, with the photo report before the goods move. On a wool coat we check lapel roll and symmetry, canvas and interlining against the spec, pattern match to your stated tolerance, lining ease so it does not pull the shell, button and buttonhole strength, sleeve head smoothness, and shade continuity between cloth pieces from different rolls, which matters more on wool than on anything else because a roll to roll shade break is visible on a shop floor.

Compliance differs by plant. The factories on our bench hold different combinations of BSCI, Sedex, WRAP, OEKO-TEX and RWS for wool. Tell us what your buyer requires and we will only quote plants that already hold it, with the certificate attached to the quote.

Minimum order starts from 300 pieces per colour, and on a wool coat the cloth minimum may set the real floor, so tell us the cloth early. Two factory quotes in 48 hours, sample in 7 to 14 days, bulk in 30 to 60 days after the pre production sample is signed, FOB Chattogram.

Cloth lead time is the real lead time

Wool is usually imported, and the cloth arrives before the coat can be cut. On a new cloth, add three to six weeks for the mill before the 30 to 60 day production window starts. If your date is fixed, tell us the date first and we will work backwards and tell you the last day to confirm the cloth.
