Down Jacket Manufacturer in Bangladesh

A down jacket is bought on warmth per gram and returned on leakage. Both come from numbers you put in the specification and a buyer can verify: fill power, fill weight, the down to feather ratio, and whether the shell is downproof. Get those four right and the garment is good. Leave any of them to the factory and you are buying a lottery ticket. Down jacket types we source

Lightweight Down Jacket

Twenty denier or lighter shell, sewn through baffles, 40 to 80 grams of fill. The volume item and the one that has to be downproof or the fill migrates through the stitch line in a season.

Hooded Down Jacket

The same build with an attached or detachable hood, insulated or lined. Say whether the hood is filled, because an unfilled hood on a down jacket is a complaint waiting to happen.

Down Parka

Thigh length or longer, heavier shell, 150 grams of fill and up, two way zip, storm flap, adjustable hem. The garment where fill weight and baffle pattern matter most.

Box Baffle Down Jacket

Walled baffles rather than sewn through, so there is no cold seam and the down can reach full loft. More cloth, more sewing, more warmth for the same fill weight. Ask for it when the jacket has to perform rather than just look warm.

Packable Down Jacket

Built to compress into its own pocket or a supplied bag. Needs a light shell and clean seams, and the pack size belongs in the spec because it is what the customer judges.

Down Vest

Sleeveless, usually a higher fill weight because it is worn as a mid layer. Quick to make and the cheapest way into a down range.

Down Liner

A thin filled layer built to zip into a shell. The zip system has to match the outer garment exactly, so send both or let us quote them as a pair.

Kids Down Jacket

The same construction with the childrenswear rules applied: no cord at the neck, studs and zips tested for pull strength, and the age band stated so the plant builds it right.

The four numbers that define a down jacket

Fill power. The volume one ounce of down occupies, measured in cubic inches.550 is serviceable, 650 is the everyday premium, 700 and up is technical. Higher fill power means the same warmth at less weight, and it costs more per gram.

Fill weight. The actual grams of down in the garment. A jacket with 700 fill power and 40 grams of fill is not warm. Ask for fill weight per garment and per panel, and ask for it to be verified by weighing a cut sample at final inspection. We do that as standard and send you the number.

Down to feather ratio. Usually written as 90/10 or 80/20. The first number is down cluster, the second is feather. More feather is cheaper, heavier and pokes through. Specify the ratio and ask for the composition test.

Cleanliness and odour. Down is a natural product washed before use. Under washed down smells when it gets damp, which is the complaint that arrives in month two. There are standard turbidity and oxygen number tests for it. Name the standard and we will only quote plants that can supply the report.

Downproof shell, and why it is not optional

Down escapes through the weave and through the needle holes. A downproof fabric is woven tightly enough and calendered so it does not, and it is tested by rubbing and tumbling a filled sample. If the shell is not downproof the jacket sheds, the customer sees feathers on a dark jumper, and no amount of good sewing fixes it.

Ask for the downproof test on the shell, and ask what needle size and thread the plant uses on the baffles. A coarse needle on a fine shell makes its own leak.

Certification

If the hangtag says anything about animal welfare, that claim needs the certificate behind it. The Responsible Down Standard is the one most buyers ask for, and it tracks the down from farm to garment. It is a chain of custody, so the plant, the fill supplier and the farm all have to be in scope. Tell us at the enquiry if you need it and we will only quote plants already certified, with the certificate attached to the quote rather than promised after the order.

Recycled down is also available and is certified separately. Say which you want, because they are different supply chains and different prices.

Sizing and grading

A filled garment measures differently from a flat one, because the loft takes up room. Send your size chart with the chest, body length from the high point of the shoulder, sleeve length, hem sweep and hood dimensions, plus the tolerance, and expect the factory to measure with the loft settled on a flat table.

We measure the pre production sample in the smallest size, the sample size and the largest size and send you the numbers before bulk cutting starts. On down we also send the weighed fill for the sampled garment, because that is the number the whole order rests on.

Quality control

Inline inspection while the line runs. Final inspection to AQL 2.5 unless your standard differs, with the photo report before the goods move. On a down jacket we weigh the fill on a cut sample against the spec, check the down and feather composition report, run a leakage check on a filled panel, look for cold spots and empty baffles by hand along every seam, run every sampled zip through its full length, and check shade continuity on shell and lining separately.

Compliance differs by plant. The factories on our bench hold different combinations of BSCI, Sedex, WRAP, OEKO-TEX, RDS and GRS. Tell us what your buyer requires and we will only quote plants that already hold it.

Booking a down season

Down capacity is scarcer than quilting capacity, because fewer plants handle the fill and the ones that do fill early. If you know your season volume, send it before the styles are final. A booked slot with a later style change is an easy conversation, and a finished tech pack with no slot left is not.
