The cotton vest is the volume garment of a basics range: one body, a few colours, sold singly or in multipacks. A cotton tank top manufacturer in Bangladesh usually knits it from combed single jersey at 140 to 180 GSM and finishes the neck and armholes with a rib or self fabric binding. On so plain a garment, yarn, binding and shrinkage decide whether customers buy again.

Garments Hub BD asks both bench factories to price the same yarn, the same binding and the same shrinkage limit, so the two quotes compare line for line rather than on a headline figure. Inline inspection during sewing looks at the armhole binding on the first bundles, because a gaping armhole repeated across a whole colour is costly to rework.

Kinds of cotton tank top

Combed jersey vest with self fabric binding

The basics staple. The binding is cut from the body fabric, so the colour matches exactly and the cost stays low. Choose it for a soft, flat neckline on a vest sold singly or across a coloured range.

Combed jersey vest with rib binding

A 1x1 rib strip binds the neck and armholes. Rib pulls back after stretching, so the openings keep their shape through more washes. Choose it when the vest is worn on its own and photographed for the product page.

Carded jersey undershirt vest

Carded yarn skips the combing step and keeps more short fibre, so small neps show on the face. It costs less and suits white undershirt vests in multipacks, worn under a shirt and rarely seen.

Organic cotton vest

Jersey knitted from certified organic yarn for a range that carries an organic claim. The claim rests on GOTS certification along the chain, from the spinner to the factory that sews the vest.

What to tell a cotton tank top manufacturer in Bangladesh

Yarn
Combed or carded, and the count. Jersey at 140 to 180 GSM is usually knitted from 26s to 34s Ne yarn, 30s being common near 160 GSM; the finer count gives a smoother face and a lighter vest.
Fabric weight
The finished GSM after washing, not the greige weight, with a tolerance, usually plus or minus 5 percent. At 140 GSM the vest drapes; at 180 GSM it holds a straighter line.
Binding type and width
Rib or self fabric at the neck and at the armholes, which need not match. Give the finished width in millimetres, usually 8 to 15 mm on a vest.
Binding tension
Binding is cut shorter than the opening it covers, typically 80 to 90 percent of its length. Too long and the armhole gapes; too short and it puckers.
Shrinkage limit
Length and width limits after washing, usually 3 to 5 percent on compacted cotton jersey. Ask for compacted fabric so the body length holds after the first wash.
Hem and pack
Twin needle coverstitch hem depth, usually 2 to 2.5 cm, and whether vests ship singly, folded in threes or banded in a printed multipack sleeve.

Tests and certificates for cotton tank tops

ISO 5077 with ISO 6330
Dimensional change of the finished vest after domestic washing. Ask for body length and chest width before and after, so the result maps onto your size chart.
ISO 12945-1
The pilling box test. Useful when deciding between combed and carded yarn, since the short fibre in carded jersey pills sooner across the front of the body.
OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100
Tests the jersey, thread and labels of the vest for harmful substances. A vest worn against the skin all day is a common reason for retail buyers to ask for it.
GOTS
Needed before the vest is sold as organic: the organic grade needs at least 95 percent certified organic fibre, the made with organic grade at least 70 percent.

What moves the price of a cotton tank top

  • Combed yarn over carded, since combing adds a process and loses short fibre as waste.
  • Fabric weight, because a vest with almost no trims is mostly the cost of its jersey.
  • Rib binding, knitted as a separate fabric, against self binding cut from the body roll.
  • Piece dyed colours against grey melange, whose colour is spun into the yarn before knitting.
  • Multipack packing: folding, banding and a printed sleeve add cost to every vest.

Lead time for cotton tank tops

A cotton vest sample usually takes 7 to 14 days, and bulk 30 to 60 days once the PP sample is approved in writing. Grey melange is approved on a knitted swatch rather than a lab dip; each piece dyed colour needs its own lab dip, which adds days. Certified organic yarn may need booking before knitting, which adds days. The quote confirms the dates.

What we check on cotton tank tops before shipment

  • Binding lies flatNeck and armhole bindings checked for rippling or gaping on every size, since a tension error repeats through the whole bundle.
  • Twist after washingA washed vest from each colour checked for side seam twist; single jersey can spiral and pull the seam onto the front.
  • Face of the jerseyThe front panel checked for neps, slubs and holes, which show more on carded yarn and on pale colours.
  • Multipack contentsEach pack checked for the right count and size, with the size label on every vest matching the sleeve.

Questions buyers ask about cotton tank tops

Should my cotton vests be combed or carded?

Combed, if the vest is sold as an outer layer or photographed close up. Combing removes short fibre, so the face is smoother and pills later. Carded yarn costs less and works for undershirts sold in multipacks. Ask both factories to quote the same yarn, or the comparison will mislead you.

How much will a cotton tank top shrink?

On compacted cotton jersey, usually within 3 to 5 percent in length after washing, but write your own limit into the spec. Fabric that has not been compacted can shrink more. Ask for an ISO 5077 report on the PP sample, measured on body length and chest, before bulk cutting starts.

Is rib binding worth the extra cost?

On a vest worn on its own, usually yes. Rib recovers after stretching, so the armhole and neck stay closer to the approved shape after repeated washing. Self fabric binding costs less and matches the body colour exactly; it suits undershirts and lighter vests where a slight slackening does not show.

Can I order white, black and grey melange in one run?

Yes. The minimum applies to each colour, and the size split within it is yours to set. White and grey melange are usually quicker to approve because neither needs a dyed lab dip. Black needs its lab dip approved first, and a wash fastness check if it shares a multipack with white.
