A double breasted trench coat is the full, military derived raincoat: a ten button crossed front, a gun flap on the front shoulder, a storm flap across the upper back, epaulettes, a belt with D rings, buckled sleeve straps and a back vent. It anchors a trench range and is the version to price first. A double breasted trench coat manufacturer in Bangladesh costs it part by part, so knowing what each detail adds lets a range decide what to keep.
Quote this version first with every part listed, and both factories return a price the range can then trim part by part. Because the parts are fixed early, the fit sample is spent on proportion, flap depth, epaulette length and belt height, rather than on adding pieces that reprice the order.
Kinds of double breasted trench coat
Knee length ten button trench
Five rows of buttons, a collar that buttons up with a throat latch, raglan sleeves and every detail. The reference version, and the one that shows the full cost.
Long trench below the knee
The same front taken to mid calf. It uses more cloth and a longer back vent, and needs a longer belt to keep the proportion right.
Eight button trench
Four rows of buttons and a shorter front for a smaller frame or a younger range. Fewer buttonholes and a smaller gun flap trim the cost a little.
Set in sleeve trench
Swaps the raglan for a set in sleeve with a light shoulder pad, giving a sharper shoulder. It needs its own pattern and changes how the epaulettes sit.
What to give a double breasted trench coat manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Front and buttons
- Ten buttons in five rows is standard. Give row spacing, overlap and button size, usually 20 to 24 mm on the front and smaller on the straps.
- Gun flap and storm flap
- Depth and shape of the gun flap on the front shoulder and of the storm flap across the back yoke, and whether each buttons down or is caught in the seam.
- Epaulettes
- Width, length, point shape, and whether they button at the collar end or slot into the sleeve seam. Grade their length with the shoulder.
- Belt, D rings and straps
- Belt width, usually 4 to 5 cm, buckle type and finish, keepers, and the D rings at the waist. Add the sleeve strap width and buckle.
- Throat latch and collar
- A latch under the collar that fastens to a button or hook, and the collar stand height. It shows at once if it does not close flat.
- Back vent
- Single or inverted pleat, with or without a button, and its length. An inverted pleat hides the lining when the wearer walks.
Tests for a double breasted trench coat
- ISO 13935
- Seam strength. Belt loops, epaulette ends and strap anchors are pulled daily; ask for the result on the main seams and check the anchors as bar tacks at inspection.
- ISO 12947
- Martindale abrasion. The belt runs through its buckle and keepers and the straps rub the cuffs; a cloth with a low result shows worn edges there first.
- REACH Annex XVII, entry 27
- Plated buckles, D rings and sleeve strap buckles can touch the wrist and neck, so ask the trim supplier for a nickel release report against the EU limit.
What each part adds to the price of a double breasted trench coat
- Gun flap and storm flap: each is a lined, buttoned panel with its own cutting, sewing and pressing.
- Buttons and buttonholes across the front, epaulettes, flaps and throat latch, each finished separately.
- Metal hardware: belt buckle, D rings and sleeve buckles, dearer in a nominated finish.
- The belt itself: cut in matching cloth, lined, top stitched and fitted with keepers.
- Set in sleeves, which add a shoulder pad and a sleeve head over a raglan build.
- Cloth: cotton gabardine usually costs more than a poly cotton twill of the same weight.
Lead time for double breasted trench coats
The double breasted trench has the most parts in the range, so the fit sample takes longer to approve and often needs a second round to balance flaps, epaulettes and belt. Buckles and D rings in a nominated finish come from a trim supplier and can add days, and the water repellent finish is applied to the cloth before cutting. The quote shows each step; order confirmation to shipment is usually 60 to 90 days.
What we check on double breasted trench coats before shipment
- Flap symmetryThe gun flap and the back storm flap lie flat, their edges follow the yoke line, and their buttons line up.
- Belt lengthThe belt closes on the largest size with the tail reaching the first keeper, and every keeper is sewn square.
- HardwareBuckles and D rings are fixed securely, work without catching the cloth, and show no plating flaws.
- Epaulette positionEpaulettes end at the same point on each shoulder and stay in proportion on the smallest and largest sizes.
Questions buyers ask about double breasted trench coats
Why quote the double breasted trench first?
Because it carries every part a trench can have. With each part priced, it is easy to see what a single breasted or shorter version saves by dropping the gun flap, the second button row or the sleeve straps. Starting from the simple version hides those costs, and parts added after the quote come back as a new price.
Are the gun flap and storm flap functional?
On a fashion trench they are mostly style, but they still add a layer over the shoulder and upper back that sheds rain. Lined and buttoned flaps sit better than unlined ones. For a lighter look the gun flap can go and the back storm flap stay, which is how many single breasted versions are cut.
What buckles should a trench belt use?
Usually a cloth covered or metal prong buckle on the belt and smaller matching buckles on the sleeve straps. Metal hardware sold into the EU needs a nickel release report. Covered buckles avoid that question and match the cloth exactly, but take longer to make and wear at the edges sooner.
Raglan or set in sleeves on a double breasted trench?
Raglan is the traditional build: easier to fit across different shoulders, and roomy enough to go over a jacket. A set in sleeve gives a sharper, tailored shoulder and suits a slimmer cut. Each needs its own pattern, so decide before the fit sample rather than after it.
