Polyester fleece is a knitted fabric brushed and sheared into a pile, warm for its weight and quick to dry. Outdoor brands, corporate gift buyers, schools and retailers order it as jackets, pullovers, vests and blankets. A fleece wear manufacturer in Bangladesh handles it differently from cotton sweat fleece: it pills if the finish is skipped, holds static, sheds lint, and its thick edges need binding and zips set for bulk.
Garments Hub BD places polyester fleece with factories that sew it routinely, not with cotton sweatshirt plants, and both quotes state the face, weight and finish they priced. Cotton fleece hoodies and sweatshirts are on the hoodie page. A recycled claim on the label needs a current GRS or RCS certificate covering the fabric, so name it on the quote form.
Kinds of fleece wear
Microfleece pullovers and liners
Thin fleece, usually 100 to 200 GSM, for mid layers, zip in liners and promotional half zips. It packs small, layers under a shell and is the cheapest fleece to decorate.
Polar fleece jackets and vests
The standard outdoor and corporate fleece, usually 200 to 300 GSM, double face with an anti pill finish. Full zip with zipped pockets, or a sleeveless vest with bound armholes.
Sherpa and high pile fleece
A long, curly pile that imitates sheepskin, used for jackets, linings and collars. Bulky to sew; seams usually sit under binding or a woven trim that controls the pile.
Bonded fleece
Fleece laminated to another layer: fleece to fleece in two colours, fleece to jersey, or fleece to a windproof film. Warmer and stiffer, and the bond has to survive washing.
Fleece trousers and blankets
Lounge trousers, stadium blankets and throws, often embroidered or printed for gifting. Blanket edges are bound or whipstitched, and blankets are the simplest product in the group.
How to specify a polyester fleece garment
- Face and weight
- Single face, brushed on one side, or double face, brushed on both, with the weight in GSM. Double face is warmer and costs more.
- Anti pill finish
- Ask for anti pill by name, with a pilling grade after testing. Untreated fleece pills within a season of washing.
- Zips
- Coil zips sit flatter on thick pile. Give length by size and a chin guard, and ask for the zip tape to be stabilised so the front does not wave.
- Edge finish
- Stretch binding, folded self fabric or woven tape at cuffs, hems and armholes. Fleece does not fray, but raw edges curl and shed.
- Recycled content
- State recycled polyester and the certificate the claim needs. GRS and RCS are moving to Textile Exchange's Materials Matter Standard, so confirm the certificate is current.
- Decoration
- Embroidery sits well on fleece with a topping film to hold stitches above the pile; screen print flattens it. Name the method and size.
Tests and certificates for polyester fleece
- ISO 12945-1 or ISO 12945-2
- Pilling by the pilling box or the modified Martindale. Agree one method and its length, then ask for the grade on bulk fabric, not only the sample.
- 16 CFR 1610
- US flammability of clothing textiles. Brushed fleece is a raised surface textile, which the rule treats in its own way, so get a result before shipping to the US.
- GRS and RCS
- Recycled polyester claims: GRS adds social, environmental and chemical criteria, RCS tracks content only. No GRS audits take place after 31 December 2027.
- OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100
- Harmful substance testing on the fleece and its trims. Baby blankets and fleece for babies need product class I.
What moves the price at a fleece wear manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Weight and face: heavier, double face fleece uses more polyester and more brushing.
- Anti pill treatment, and any recycled certification on the fabric.
- Pile type: sherpa and high pile cost more and sew slower than polar fleece.
- Zips and pockets, since full zips, zipped pockets and chin guards add trims and operations.
- Bonding, which adds a second fabric and a laminating process.
Lead time for fleece wear
Fleece is often bought from a specialist fleece mill or imported, so the fabric date depends on colour: stock shades move quickly, while custom dyed fleece usually adds a few weeks. Samples run in the normal 7 to 14 day window. Bulk sits in the 30 to 60 day range after PP approval, with sherpa, bonded fleece and US flammability testing each adding days that the quote states.
What we check on fleece wear before shipment
- Nap direction and pillsPanels are checked for one pile direction so the shade does not change across the garment, and surfaces for early pilling.
- Zip lieFront zips are checked for waving or puckering along the bulky fleece edge, a frequent fault on fleece jackets.
- Lint and shearing wasteGarments are checked for loose fibre and shearing waste before packing, since shedding shows first on dark colours.
- Binding finishBinding is checked for even width and secure stitching at cuffs, hems and armholes, where fleece edges curl.
Questions buyers ask about fleece wear
What is the difference between polyester fleece and cotton fleece?
Polyester fleece is knitted from synthetic yarn and brushed into a pile: light, warm, quick drying and water shedding. Cotton fleece, used in hoodies and sweatshirts, is a loopback knit brushed on the inside: softer on skin, heavier when wet and slower to dry. They run on different lines.
Does polyester fleece shed microfibres?
Yes. Brushed polyester sheds fibres, most of them in the first washes. A tighter knit, a clean shearing finish and a pre wash reduce it. If shedding matters to your brand, ask for a pre washed sample and put the requirement on the quote form.
Can fleece be made from recycled polyester?
Yes, and recycled polyester fleece is common. The claim needs certified content through the supply chain under GRS or RCS. Both are moving to Textile Exchange's Materials Matter Standard, with remaining GRS certificates withdrawn by 31 March 2029, so check the certificate is current on the order date.
How do I stop a fleece jacket front from waving?
Specify a coil zip with stabilised tape, ask for the front edge to be taped or interlined, and approve the PP sample with the zip closed. A wavy front usually comes from stretchy fleece sewn to a rigid zip without support.
