Tote

Leather tote bags, your specification

Made to your tech pack, fabric and colours by a factory matched to the order.

Private label

Your main label, care label, hangtag and polybag. Nominated trims accepted.

A tote is two handles on an open or zipped body, and its large front and back panels leave nowhere to hide a scar or a wandering cut line. Buyers are fashion labels, gallery shops and companies wanting a work bag with their logo. This page helps anyone choosing a leather tote bag manufacturer in Bangladesh decide the kind, the specification and the checks.

Garments Hub BD has no tote unit vetted yet, so the desk takes your drawing and a hide reference into the leather cluster, shortlists units that cut large panels cleanly, visits them, and replies within 5 working days with a real quote or a straight no. Once a run starts, inline inspection during the make checks the panels against the agreed mark standard, and every stage is photographed for you.

Kinds of leather tote bag

Structured work tote

Panels backed with a non-woven or fibreboard stiffener, a base board and metal feet, so the bag stands up when empty. Chosen by office and corporate buyers who want files or a laptop carried upright.

Open top tote with a magnetic snap

No zip, only a sewn-in magnetic snap or a hook at the mouth. Quicker to make and easier to pack than a zipped tote, it sells on its leather and handles more than on features.

Zipped tote

A zip set into a leather facing keeps the contents in on a train or a plane. It adds a facing pattern, the zip and a fitting step, so it costs more than an open top.

Gusseted tote with a boxed base

Side gussets or a separate base panel give depth, usually 120 to 180 mm. More pieces means more seams to match in colour and grain, and the base panel is where the feet go.

What to send a leather tote bag manufacturer in Bangladesh

Panel sizes
Width at the mouth and at the base, height and gusset depth in millimetres. Most totes taper, so one width is not enough to cut a pattern from.
Hide, grain and direction
Animal, full grain or corrected grain, thickness range and finish. Ask for front and back panels cut along the backbone so both stretch the same way and keep their shape.
Handles and drop
Flat or rolled, the width, and the drop from handle top to bag mouth. A drop of usually 230 to 300 mm lets a tote sit on the shoulder over a coat.
Handle attachment
Stitched through a box with a cross, riveted, or looped through D rings on tabs. Name the rivet type and plating, because the attachment carries the whole load.
Lining and pockets
Cotton twill, canvas or unlined, and whether the lining is stitched to the facing. Give the size and position of each inside pocket and any key clip.
Base and feet
Base board material, the number of feet, usually four or five, and their diameter and plating. Feet cost little and stop the base wearing through on floors.

Tests and certificates for leather tote bags

LWG
Totes use whole hides, so the Leather Working Group rating that counts is the supplying tannery's: gold, silver, bronze or audited. Check the certificate dates for this order.
REACH Annex XVII, entry 47
Tote handles are held all day, and entry 47 caps chromium VI at 3 mg/kg in leather articles touching skin. EU orders should carry a test report on the hide lot.
ISO 105-B02
Light fastness for aniline and semi aniline totes that will sit in a shop window, graded 1 to 8 against blue wool references, where a higher grade means less fading.
OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100
A textile standard, so on a tote it applies to the cotton or canvas lining. If the buyer wants it, the lining fabric needs a certificate in the mill's own name.

What moves the price of a leather tote bag

  • Panel area and where it is cut: large clean panels must come from the centre of the hide, which raises the waste.
  • Structure: stiffener, base board and feet add material and an extra assembly stage to every bag.
  • Rolled handles built over a cord core take more hand work than flat, double layer handles.
  • Hardware count and plating: rivets, D rings, feet and a magnetic snap, each in the finish you choose.

Lead time for leather tote bags

Tote samples usually take 14 to 21 days and bulk 45 to 75 days after the PP sample is approved in writing. A colour the tannery dyes to order adds days before cutting can start, and so does an embossing die for a logo or custom cast feet. A structured tote can need a second proto if the panels sag. The quote confirms the dates for your order.

What we check on leather tote bags before shipment

  • Panel matchFront and back panels compared in daylight for colour and grain, and every mark judged against the written standard before packing.
  • Handle loadA loaded tote hung by its handles for a set time, then the rivets and box stitching checked for movement or tearing.
  • Base and feetFeet set tight through the base board, the bag standing level on a flat table, and no board edge showing through the leather.
  • Handle symmetryHandle positions measured from the side seams and both drops measured, so the tote hangs straight on the shoulder.

Questions buyers ask about leather tote bags

Should my leather tote have a zip or an open top?

A zip if the tote is for travel or commuting, where things fall out of an open mouth. An open top with a magnetic snap is quicker to make, lighter and easier to use in a shop or office. Some buyers split the difference with an inside zip pocket and an open mouth.

Does a structured tote need a base board?

Yes, if the tote has to stand on its own or carry a laptop flat. A board under the leather base stops sagging and gives the feet something to grip. Soft totes leave it out and slump when set down, which suits some ranges.

Will every tote in the order have the same grain and marks?

No. Each hide differs. What can be held steady is the standard: which marks are accepted where, agreed in writing with photographs before cutting. With that agreement the inspector has a rule to apply, and front panels are cut from the clearer areas of each hide.

How thick should the leather be for a tote?

Usually 1.2 to 1.6 mm for a cowhide tote that keeps some shape. Thinner leather needs a stiffener behind it to avoid creasing, and thicker leather makes a heavy bag before anything goes in. State a range in millimetres, because a single figure cannot be held across a hide.
