Linen clothing is cut from cloth woven from flax, alone or blended with cotton or viscose, and sold for heat, holidays and summer living. Little linen is woven in Bangladesh, so the cloth is usually imported and bought by the colour. A linen clothing manufacturer in Bangladesh therefore plans a resort range around the cloth: which weights, which blends and how many colours share each roll.

Garments Hub BD sends the range to woven plants on its bench that already cut linen, and asks each to quote its cloth source, weight and minimum per colour, so the fabric plan behind each price is visible. The linen shirt has its own page; this page covers the range around it.

Kinds of linen clothing

Linen trousers and shorts

Drawstring, elasticated or tailored waists in cloth usually heavier than shirting, around 180 to 240 GSM. Pure linen bags at the seat and knee with wear, so blends suit tailored styles.

Linen dresses and skirts

Shift, shirt and wrap shapes, often in washed linen or linen viscose for a softer drape. Pale shades usually need a lining or a separate slip.

Linen blazers and overshirts

Unstructured blazers with light fusing and half linings, and overshirts in heavier linen or linen cotton. The fusible has to bond at a low setting, or linen bubbles after washing.

Linen shirts

The centre of most ranges, with a page of its own. Within a range the shirt usually sets the palette, and the other styles are shade matched to its cloth and its roll lots.

Linen sets

Shirt and trouser or top and shorts sets cut from one roll, so both pieces share a shade. Cut, bundled and packed together, they are counted as sets on the order.

What to send a linen clothing manufacturer in Bangladesh

Cloth per piece
Fibre, weight and finish for each garment: lighter linen for shirts and dresses, heavier for trousers and blazers. One or two cloths across the range share the cloth minimum.
Blend
Pure linen, linen cotton or linen viscose, with percentages. The blend changes crease, drape and the fibre label.
Washed or unwashed
Washed cloth, a garment wash or neither, with every size chart given as finished after the wash. Unwashed linen shrinks most in the customer's first wash.
Fusing and linings
For blazers and tailored trousers, a low temperature fusible tested on the linen itself, plus lining fabric and length.
One quality standard
Creasing from wear and packing accepted, a slub reference, and what counts as a defect, written once for every style in the range.
Colours per cloth
How many colours each cloth runs in, and the metres per colour across all styles. The cloth minimum is met per colour, not per garment.

Tests and labelling for linen clothing

AATCC 150
Dimensional change of garments in home laundering. Run it on each garment type, since a trouser and a dress cut from one cloth do not shrink alike once sewn.
ISO 105-X12
Rubbing fastness, dry and wet. Dark and indigo dyed linen often rubs off when wet onto a pale bag or seat, so ask for the wet grade on dark shades.
ISO 12947
Martindale abrasion for trousers and shorts, where linen wears through at the seat and inner thigh sooner than cotton twill.
Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011
EU fibre names and composition. A linen cotton blend names both fibres with their shares; words such as pure or 100 percent belong only on a garment of one fibre.

What moves the price of linen clothing

  • Imported cloth and its freight, with pure linen above linen cotton or linen viscose.
  • Number of cloths and colours, each carrying its own minimum and lot.
  • Washing, at cloth or garment stage, with its shrinkage allowance.
  • Tailoring on blazers and trousers: fusing, linings and pressing take longer on linen.
  • Enclosed seams on loose weaves, which sew slower than overlock.

Lead time for linen clothing

Imported linen sets the pace. Cloth a mill or converter already holds in the right weight and colour reaches the cutting table quickly; cloth woven or dyed to order adds weeks at the mill and shipping days on top. A garment wash adds a stage after sewing, and blazers usually need an extra fit round. Order resort ranges early, and the quote dates the cloth first.

What we check on linen clothing before shipment

  • Shade across stylesShirts, trousers and dresses cut from different rolls of one colour are compared together, since coordinates are sold side by side.
  • Fusing on blazersBlazer fronts and collars are checked for bubbling and stiffness after a wash or press test.
  • Seat and crotch seamsTrouser seams at the seat and crotch are pulled for slippage and checked for puckering, the points that strain most in linen.
  • Finished chart per garmentWashed pieces of every garment type are measured against their own finished chart, not only the shirts.

Questions buyers ask about linen clothing

Is linen woven in Bangladesh?

Only a little. Most linen and linen blend cloth for garments is imported, then cut and sewn here. That makes cloth the long lead item and sets the minimum per colour, so a range built on one or two cloths in a short palette is easier to place than many cloths in few metres.

Pure linen or a blend for trousers?

A blend for tailored trousers: linen cotton or linen viscose bags less at the knee and creases less. Pure linen suits drawstring and relaxed trousers, where the crease is part of the look. Many ranges pair pure linen shirts with blend trousers in matching shades.

Can linen clothing be garment dyed?

Yes. Garment dyed linen has a soft, lived in hand and colour that varies a little piece to piece. It shrinks in the dye bath, so the pattern is cut larger and the shade approved against a band, not one swatch. Ecru linen prepared for dyeing is bought for it.

What weight of linen suits each garment?

Usually 120 to 170 GSM for shirts and light dresses, 180 to 240 GSM for trousers, shorts and overshirts, and around 220 to 260 GSM for blazers. Lighter cloth breathes better but shows through in pale colours; heavier cloth hangs and holds a pressed line.
