Overrun stock lots, your specification

Made to your tech pack, fabric and colours by a factory matched to the order.

Private label

Your main label, care label, hangtag and polybag. Nominated trims accepted.

An overrun stock lot is finished clothing left over when a production run ends: pieces cut over the order quantity, an order the buyer cancelled, or goods rejected at the buyer's inspection. Off price retailers, wholesalers and market traders buy it to sell below normal price. An overrun stock lot supplier in Bangladesh sells goods that already exist, so the work lies in inspecting, sorting and buying well, not in production.

Garments Hub BD does not hold stock. It asks factories on its bench for lots that fit your brief, and a lot you are weighing up is counted and inspected by random sample, with photographs of the cartons, labels and faults that are yours to keep. A third party inspector of your choice may inspect it too, and that report overrules ours.

Kinds of overrun stock lot

Excess cut lots

Factories usually cut a small allowance over the order, typically 2 to 5 percent, to cover faults. What is left after shipment is sound stock in the original styles, often spread thinly across sizes and colours.

Cancelled order lots

A whole order left when a buyer cancels or refuses a late shipment. These lots can be large, in full size runs and export cartons, but they usually carry the brand's labels.

Rejected lots

Goods that failed the buyer's inspection for shade, measurements or defect rate. The faults range from minor to serious, so these lots need a closer look and a lower price.

Mixed surplus lots

Leftovers of many styles from several runs, gathered and sold together, often by the kilogram. Low in cost per piece, but slow to sort and hard to resell evenly.

How to brief an overrun stock lot supplier in Bangladesh

Product and fabric
Name the garment types and fabrics you want, such as knit tops, denim or children's wear, and any you will not take.
Size breakdown
Give the size spread you can sell, and ask for the lot's breakdown by style and size before any price is discussed.
Label state
Say whether brand labels must be removed, cut through or left, and whether you will relabel with your own.
Grade
State whether you accept only first quality, or also seconds with listed faults at a lower price.
Price basis
Say whether you buy by the piece for sorted lots or by the kilogram for mixed lots.
Market of resale
Name where you will sell, since labelling and children's product rules there decide what you can resell.

Rules and sampling for overrun stock lots

ISO 2859-1
The AQL sampling tables. Use them to decide how many pieces to open from a lot of a given size, so the defect count stands for the whole lot.
FTC Care Labeling Rule (16 CFR 423)
In the US, garments must carry care instructions. When brand labels come out, make sure the care label stays or is replaced with your own before sale.
Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011
Sets the fibre names for EU labels. Relabelled overrun goods need correct fibre content in those names, information the removed brand label may have carried.
US CPSIA
Children's items in a lot still need third party testing at a CPSC accepted laboratory, a tracking label and a Children's Product Certificate for US sale. The original brand's certificate does not pass to you.

What moves the price of an overrun stock lot

  • Brand labels and recognisable styling, which raise demand but limit where the lot can be sold.
  • Size spread: full runs in core sizes fetch more than broken assortments.
  • Grade, since seconds with listed faults sell well below first quality.
  • Sorting already done: lots sorted by style and size carry the cost of that work.
  • Product type: plain basics hold value longer than trend pieces.
  • Label removal or relabelling work done before the lot ships.

Lead time for overrun stock lots

An overrun lot needs no sewing, so the time goes on inspection and preparation. Counting, random inspection and photographs usually fit inside the 7 to 14 days shown for samples. Label removal, relabelling, re-packing and export documents usually fit inside the 30 to 60 days shown for bulk, and a lot needing no work ships early in that window; the quote confirms the date.

What we check on overrun stock lots before shipment

  • Carton countCartons are counted against the packing list, since missing cartons are a frequent gap between an offer and the goods.
  • Size breakdownRandom cartons are opened and sizes counted by style, to confirm the breakdown that was offered.
  • Label stateLabels are checked against what was agreed: removed, cut through or intact, including care labels and printed neck marks.
  • Defects by samplePieces are inspected at the agreed AQL for stains, holes, shade and measurements, and every fault is photographed.

Questions buyers ask about overrun stock lots

What is the difference between an overrun lot and a seconds lot?

An overrun is sound production left over, usually first quality. A seconds lot is made of pieces with faults, from small marks to wrong measurements. Rejected orders can be either, so ask why the goods were left and for a defect count from a random sample.

Can I sell overrun garments under my own label?

Usually, once the original brand's labels and marks are removed and your labels carry correct fibre content, care and country of origin. Printed or embroidered brand logos cannot be removed cleanly, so those pieces may not be resellable at all. Ask the holder to confirm in writing that the brand released the lot, and check the rules of your market before relabelling.

How is an overrun stock lot priced?

Sorted lots of one style are usually priced by the piece; mixed lots of many styles often by the kilogram. Price follows grade, size spread, labels and how easily the styles sell in your market. The offer should state the basis, the quantity and the inspection result.

What documents come with an exported overrun lot?

A commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin. Children's items for the US also need your own Children's Product Certificate. Make sure the packing list states cartons, pieces and sizes as found at inspection, not as first offered.

Can I buy part of an overrun lot?

Sometimes. Some holders split a lot by style or by carton; others sell only the whole lot to clear it at once. The quote states which, and the minimum each holder accepts.
