Recycled polyester clothing is made from yarn or fibre spun from used bottles or textile waste instead of new raw material. It sews and dyes like virgin polyester, so the garment looks the same; the differences are in the paperwork and in small shifts of shade and whiteness between lots. A recycled polyester clothing manufacturer in Bangladesh often buys the yarn or wadding from abroad and has to keep the certified chain unbroken.

Kinds of recycled polyester clothing
Activewear and team kit
Interlock, mesh and polyester elastane knits from recycled filament yarn, for training tops, leggings and jerseys. Sublimation prints on it as it does on virgin polyester.
Fleece and sweatshirts
Brushed polyester fleece, or cotton blend fleece with a recycled polyester share. Spun recycled fibre can pill sooner than filament, so the brushed face needs a grade.
Padded outerwear
Recycled polyester wadding inside a recycled or virgin shell. The wadding claim and the shell claim are separate, and each needs its own certificate behind it.
Woven shells and rainwear
Recycled polyester taffeta, ripstop and twill for jackets and windbreakers, often with a water repellent finish applied after weaving. A coated or laminated shell lists its coating or membrane as a separate component in the claim.
Caps and bags
Recycled polyester crowns, straps and bag cloth. Caps come through a unit found and vetted for the enquiry; bags are quoted where a plant on the bench already sews that construction.
What to send a recycled polyester clothing manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Claim and standard
- The exact hangtag wording and whether it rests on GRS or RCS. The wording sets the recycled share each component has to carry.
- Recycled share per component
- Shell, lining, wadding, rib and thread listed separately with their shares. A jacket with a recycled shell and virgin wadding cannot be called recycled throughout.
- Yarn type
- Filament or spun, denier and filament count, and whether the yarn is dope dyed. Recycled yarns of one denier can differ in strength and evenness between suppliers.
- Whiteness reference
- For whites and pale shades, a physical whiteness standard. Recycled chips can carry a slight grey or yellow cast that shows on white and clear pastels.
- Colour route
- Dope dyed yarn carries a large spinner's minimum per colour; piece dyed cloth a dye lot minimum. Name your colours so the quote can say which route fits.
- Transaction certificate
- Who applies and which quantities it covers. Without one for the shipment, the hangtag claim has nothing behind it.
Certificates and tests for recycled polyester clothing
- GRS (Global Recycled Standard)
- Textile Exchange's recycled content standard with social, environmental and chemical criteria: certification from 20 percent recycled content, its product label from 50 percent. Being replaced by the Materials Matter Standard, with audits to it from 31 December 2026.
- RCS (Recycled Claim Standard)
- Textile Exchange's chain of custody for recycled content from 5 percent, with no social, environmental or chemical criteria. It follows the same Materials Matter transition and dates as GRS.
- ISO 12945-2
- Pilling by modified Martindale. Set a grade on spun recycled fleece and jersey, where shorter or uneven fibre can pill sooner than virgin filament.
- ISO 13938
- Bursting strength of knit. When a new supplier's recycled yarn replaces the yarn in an approved fabric, compare the bursting result before switching.
What moves the price of recycled polyester clothing
- Certified recycled yarn or wadding, which usually costs more than virgin polyester of the same denier.
- Dope dyed recycled yarn, whose spinner minimum per colour is high for a small range.
- Recycled share: a fully recycled garment needs certified versions of every component.
- Certification along the chain and a transaction certificate per shipment.
- Extra shade sorting and lot control when recycled yarn lots vary in colour.
Lead time for recycled polyester clothing
Certified recycled yarn is not always in stock in the denier and colour needed, and imported yarn or wadding adds shipping days before knitting or quilting starts. Dope dyed yarn is spun to order. Shade checks between recycled lots can add an approval round, and the transaction certificate is issued only once shipment details exist. The quote names each step.

Questions buyers ask about recycled polyester clothing
What share of recycled polyester does a hangtag claim need?
It depends on the standard. RCS covers recycled content from 5 percent, GRS certification starts at 20 percent and the GRS product label at 50 percent. Whatever the share, the hangtag should state it and match the transaction certificate for that shipment.
Does recycled polyester behave differently from virgin polyester?
Mostly not: it dyes, prints and sews the same way. The differences are small: a slight cast on whites, more shade variation between lots, and on spun yarn sometimes earlier pilling. Approve the bulk fabric rather than a swatch from another lot, and set a pilling grade.
Is GRS still worth asking for with the Materials Matter Standard coming?
Yes, while the certificate is current. Audits to the Materials Matter Standard start from 31 December 2026, no GRS audits are held after 31 December 2027, and remaining GRS certificates are withdrawn by 31 March 2029. Check each certificate's dates against your shipment.
Where does recycled polyester yarn come from?
Mostly from used plastic bottles, cleaned, flaked and melted into fibre or yarn, and in smaller amounts from textile waste. Much of it reaches Bangladesh as imported yarn, fibre or wadding. The certificate trail, not the supplier's description, is what proves the source.
