Yoga wear is bought for how it feels and how it behaves on the mat, not for sweat handling. Leggings stretch four ways and come back, stay opaque in a deep forward fold, and carry no seam or label that presses into the body during floor work. A yoga wear manufacturer in Bangladesh for this range needs brushed knits in nylon elastane, cotton modal or bamboo viscose, and careful cutting.
Garments Hub BD briefs two plants on its bench that already cut brushed elastane knits and asks both to quote on the same weight and finish, so the comparison is like for like. The fit sample is worth judging in a squat and a forward fold, and inspection looks at opacity and nap direction as well as measurements.
Kinds of yoga wear
High rise yoga leggings
Rise above the natural waist, a soft waistband usually 7 to 12 cm deep with little or no elastic, a gusset and often no front centre seam. The core of the range and the piece that decides repeat orders.
Bra tops and shelf bras
Light support tops with a wide soft band, removable pads and no hooks, or a tank with a built in shelf bra. Choose them for low impact practice; a running bra belongs in a gym kit.
Flow tanks and wrap tops
Loose, drapey tanks in modal or viscose jersey, often longer at the back and worn over a bra top. Choose a fabric that falls away from the body when the wearer is upside down.
Loose yoga pants
Wide or straight leg pants with a fold over waistband in cotton modal or viscose jersey. Choose them for gentle classes and lounging; they need drape and recovery at the waist, not compression.
How to specify yoga wear
- Face and sheen
- Ask for a matte face: semi dull or full dull nylon yarn and a brushed or peached finish. A bright yarn reads as gym wear under studio light.
- Four way stretch and recovery
- Stretch in length and width, and recovery after the fabric is held stretched. Leggings lose shape at the knee and seat first, so state a recovery figure, not only stretch.
- Opacity at full stretch
- Name the colours that must stay opaque in a deep squat. Light and heather shades usually need a double knit or a lined front panel.
- Waistband build
- Depth, layers, whether it has elastic at all, and a hidden inner pocket. No drawcord or hardware at the spine, where it presses into the mat.
- Seams and labels for floor work
- Flatlock with soft thread, no front centre seam where the pattern allows, and printed labels in place of sewn ones wherever the body lies down.
- Fibre, shrinkage and care
- Cotton modal and bamboo viscose shrink more than nylon elastane. Ask for relaxed, pre shrunk fabric before cutting and a care label that keeps the dryer cool.
Tests a yoga wear manufacturer in Bangladesh should run
- ISO 12945-2
- Pilling on the modified Martindale. A brushed face pills faster than a smooth one, so test the exact finish you approved, not the greige fabric.
- ISO 5077
- Length and width change after home laundering, using ISO 6330 wash cycles. Essential on cotton modal and viscose pants, which lose length after the first wash if the fabric was not relaxed.
- Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011
- The EU fibre names list has no bamboo, so bamboo viscose is labelled viscose. In the US, under the Textile Fiber Products Identification Act, it is rayon or viscose, with bamboo named only as the source.
What moves the price of yoga wear
- Brushing or peaching adds a finishing pass at the mill and some loss of fabric width.
- Semi dull and full dull nylon yarns cost more than bright polyester.
- A deep shaped waistband with an inner pocket adds pattern pieces and sewing time.
- Cotton modal and bamboo viscose blends cost more than cotton jersey and need pre shrinking.
- Removable pads and pad pockets in bra tops are bought in and sewn as separate steps.
Lead time for yoga wear
Brushed and peached fabrics are finished after dyeing, and modal or viscose knits are relaxed before cutting, so a yoga order usually spends a few more days at the fabric stage than plain jersey. Samples fall in the common 7 to 14 day window once fabric is ready; bulk then takes 30 to 60 days from PP approval. Allow time to wear the fit sample through a real class. The quote states the factory dates.
What we check on yoga wear before shipment
- Squat opacityLeggings stretched over a form or worn in a deep squat under bright light, in the lightest colour of the order.
- Nap directionOn brushed fabric, every panel cut the same way up, or the two legs show two shades side by side.
- Waistband roll and twistWaistband depth measured, top edge lying flat when stretched, and the band seam running straight all round.
- Flat seams and printed labelsInside of each garment checked by hand for bulky seam junctions, hard tacks and any sewn label where the body lies down.
Questions buyers ask about yoga wear
How is yoga fabric different from gym fabric?
Yoga fabric is chosen for a soft, matte hand and four way recovery rather than sweat transport. It is usually brushed nylon elastane or a cotton modal blend, low in sheen, often slightly heavier for opacity, and sewn with fewer seams. Gym fabric tends to be smoother and more compressive.
Can the label say bamboo?
Not as the fibre. Bamboo viscose is a regenerated cellulose fibre, so the EU label says viscose and the US label says rayon or viscose, with bamboo at most named as the source. Check the hang tag and product page copy against the same rule, not only the care label.
What fabric weight stops yoga leggings going see through?
It depends on the knit and the colour as much as the number. As a guide, brushed nylon elastane at typically 240 to 280 GSM stays opaque in most dark shades, while light and heather colours may need a double knit or lined front. Test the lightest colour you are buying.
Can yoga leggings be made without a front seam?
Yes, with a pattern that moves the seams to the inside leg and back, or a gusset that replaces the front crotch junction. It uses a little more fabric and needs a fit round to settle, so ask for it at the first sample rather than after approval.
