The bomber jacket is a short blouson gathered at the waist and cuffs by knitted rib, with a front zip and a rib collar. It began as a flight jacket and now sells to fashion, streetwear and casual menswear and womenswear brands. A bomber jacket manufacturer in Bangladesh works mostly in nylon and polyester shells; the leather bomber has its own page. The hard parts are the rib, the padding and the match between them and the shell.

The desk sends both factories the same shell, rib and padding spec, so the two prices compare like with like. At the lab dip stage the rib and the shell are dyed and judged together under one light, since a knitted rib and a woven shell take dye differently.

Kinds of bomber jacket

Flight bombers

The military flight style: nylon twill or flight satin shell, padded body, a contrast lining that often makes it reversible, and a zipped sleeve pocket with pen slots.

Unpadded fashion bombers

A single lined jacket in polyester, nylon or satin for spring and autumn. Light, often printed or embroidered, and usually cut looser in the body.

Quilted lining bombers

A plain shell over a lining quilted with light wadding in diamonds or channels. It adds some warmth without the bulk of a fully padded body.

Embroidered souvenir bombers

Shiny satin shells with large back embroidery, often a contrast rib and sometimes a reversible build. The embroidery drives both the cost and the lead time.

How to brief a bomber jacket manufacturer in Bangladesh

Shell cloth
Name the fibre, weave and weight: nylon twill, polyester twill or satin, in GSM or denier. A soft hand and a slight sheen give the flight look.
Padding weight
State the wadding weight, usually 60 to 100 GSM for a transitional bomber and 120 to 200 GSM for winter, and whether it is quilted to the lining.
Rib trims
Give the rib structure (1x1 or 2x2), the fibre, the collar, cuff and hem heights and any tipping stripes. Rib with elastane recovers better.
Colour match
Ask for rib and shell to be lab dipped as a pair and approved together, or name a contrast rib on purpose.
Zips and pockets
Name the front zip, its finish and a zip garage at the neck, plus the sleeve pocket, its pen slots and any flap pockets at the waist.
Reversible or not
A reversible bomber needs both faces finished, a reversible zip slider and labels placed to work from either side.

Tests for bomber jackets

ISO 105-C06
Colour fastness to washing. On a bomber, read the staining grade as well as the shade change: a dark rib or contrast lining can bleed into a pale shell.
ISO 5077 with ISO 6330
Dimensional change in washing. Rib and shell must move together, or the hem and cuffs pucker and the body twists after the first wash.
ISO 13936
Seam slippage. Slippery nylon satin and flight twill can pull open at the armhole and shoulder seams; ask for it on the shell.

What moves the price of a bomber jacket

  • Shell fabric: nylon twill usually costs more than polyester twill or taffeta.
  • Padding weight and quilting pattern, since channel or diamond quilting adds sewing time.
  • Custom rib with tipping stripes, knitted for the order instead of taken from stock.
  • Reversible construction, which finishes two outer faces in one jacket.
  • Embroidery, prints and badges, priced by stitch count and number of positions.

Lead time for bomber jackets

A bomber sample usually takes 7 to 14 days with stock rib, longer when the rib is knitted and dyed to match. Bulk usually runs 30 to 60 days after PP approval, once rib, shell and lining shades are all signed off. Custom rib, quilted linings and large back embroidery each add days, and a reversible build adds sewing time. The quote confirms the dates.

What we check on bomber jackets before shipment

  • Rib recoveryCuffs and hem stretched and released to confirm they spring back without flaring or waving.
  • Rib to shell shadeRib and shell compared in a light box under the agreed light source, across pieces from the whole bulk.
  • Padding spreadBody and sleeves felt and held to light for thin spots, shifted wadding and broken quilting stitches.
  • Front zip lineThe zip checked for rippling where the shell meets the rib collar and the hem band.

Questions buyers ask about bomber jackets

Can the rib match the shell colour exactly?

Close, rarely exact. The rib is a knit, often polyester or cotton with elastane, and the shell a woven nylon or polyester, so one dye recipe gives two different shades. Dye them as a pair and approve them side by side; a small tolerance on the rib is usual.

How much padding does a bomber need?

Usually 60 to 100 GSM for spring and autumn and 120 to 200 GSM for winter. More padding gives more warmth and more bulk, which changes the blouson shape. Approve the fit sample with the final padding inside, since padding takes up room in the body and sleeves.

Can the jacket be reversible?

Yes. Both sides are finished as faces, so seams are bound or hidden and the pockets work from either side. It adds sewing time and needs a reversible zip slider. The classic flight version reverses to a bright lining, and the care label has to read correctly from both sides.

Nylon twill or satin for the shell?

Nylon twill gives the traditional flight look, a soft hand and good wear. Satin, usually polyester, is shinier and more fashion led, and slips at the seams more, so ask for the seam slippage test. Polyester twill costs less than nylon and takes prints well.
