A clutch is a small bag carried in the hand, with no strap or with a chain that comes off. It is bought for occasions: weddings, parties, gifting and evening collections. The make splits in two. A frame clutch is glued and closed into a metal frame, while a zip or envelope clutch is stitched, and a leather clutch manufacturer in Bangladesh may be skilled at one and not the other.
No clutch unit has been vetted by Garments Hub BD yet. The desk asks which units fit frames themselves, asks to see a frame fitted on the visit, and replies within 5 working days with a real quote or a straight no. On the order, frame fit and frame finish are written into the final inspection.
Kinds of leather clutch
Frame clutch
The body is glued into the channel of a metal frame, packed with cord and closed under pressure, then fastened with a kiss lock or clasp. A specialist operation.
Envelope clutch
A flat body with a fold over flap held by a magnetic snap. Stitched and simple, and a good base for a debossed monogram on the flap.
Zip top pouch clutch
A soft pouch with a zip across the top, often with a wrist loop that unclips. Quicker to make than a frame or box clutch, and simple to price.
Box clutch
A rigid shell covered in leather that opens on a hinge. It needs a shell made to size and careful wrapping of the leather at every corner.
Briefing a leather clutch manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Frame
- Width in millimetres, profile, hinge, clasp type and finish. Send or approve the frame first, because the clutch pattern is cut to it.
- Chain
- Length, link size and plating, and where it clips on: rings at the frame hinges or D rings on the body.
- Leather and backing
- Thin sheep or goat nappa, usually 0.6 to 0.9 mm, backed with an interlining so it holds its shape on a frame.
- Lining
- Satin, microfibre suede or leather, and any card slot or mirror pocket inside. Say whether the lining colour follows the leather or the frame.
- Occasion finish
- Metallic, an embossed pattern, or plain, plus any applied stones or studs, each listed with its position.
- Closure strength
- For envelope styles, the magnetic snap size; for frames, how firmly the clasp must hold when the clutch is shaken.
Tests and inspection levels for leather clutches
- REACH Annex XVII, entry 47
- A clutch spends the evening in a bare hand, so EU orders test the nappa lot against the 3 mg/kg limit on chromium VI in leather touching skin.
- OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100
- For the satin or other textile lining of a clutch, tested for harmful substances. Ask for the lining certificate if your buyer requires one.
- ISO 2859-1
- The AQL sampling tables. Occasion buyers often ask for AQL 1.5, a strict level, on visible frame scratches and glue marks.
What moves the price of a leather clutch
- The frame: a stock frame costs less than one made to your size or design.
- Frame fitting is slow, skilled hand work compared with stitching a zip pouch.
- Occasion finishes such as metallic leather, embossing or applied stones.
- Chain length, weight and plating on clutches that convert to shoulder wear.
- A box clutch shell made to size for each style.
Lead time for leather clutches
Clutch samples usually take 14 to 21 days and bulk 45 to 75 days after written PP approval. A frame made to your size or design adds days for tooling and a sample frame before the proto can be fitted, and plated chains are bought in. Occasion ranges have fixed dates, so share them at the enquiry; the quote confirms what is possible.
What we check on leather clutches before shipment
- Frame fitLeather sits evenly all round the channel, no glue shows, and the channel is closed tight along its length.
- Clasp actionThe kiss lock opens with a firm click and holds shut when the clutch is shaken upside down.
- Frame surfacePlated frames free of scratches from the closing tool and of fingerprints in the lacquer.
- Chain attachmentChain clips and rings close fully and hold the loaded clutch without opening.
Questions buyers ask about leather clutches
Frame clutch or zip clutch?
A frame gives the classic evening shape and a satisfying click, but needs a frame and a unit skilled at fitting it, and costs more. A zip clutch is stitched, softer, cheaper and quicker. Ranges for weddings and parties lean towards frames, while gifting ranges often choose zips.
Can I use my own clutch frame design?
Yes, but it needs tooling and a sample frame, which adds days and a one off cost in the quote. A stock frame in a standard width is faster. The pattern is cut to the frame, so the frame is fixed before the proto.
Can the clutch chain come off?
Yes. The chain clips to rings at the frame hinges or to D rings on the body with small clasps. Specify the drop you want when it is worn on the shoulder, and check that the clasps do not scratch the frame when the chain is stored inside.
Which leather suits an evening clutch?
Thin sheep or goat nappa, usually 0.6 to 0.9 mm, because it wraps tightly round frames and corners. Metallic and embossed finishes are common for occasions. Thick cowhide is hard to fit into a frame channel and makes a bulky clutch.
