Full length puddle

Barrel leg
Curved out through the knee and narrowing at the hem, shaped with curved side seams or darts. It needs rigid heavy denim to hold the curve.
Trouser front wide leg
Front pleats, slant pockets or a pressed crease on a wide denim leg. It sits between jeans and trousers, and the crease must be set to survive washing.

- Tensile strength of woven fabric. Ask for warp and weft results to confirm the heavy denim is as strong as its weight suggests.
What moves the price of wide leg jeans
- Fabric use: a wide, long leg takes noticeably more denim per pair than a straight leg.
- Denim weight: 13 or 14 oz costs more per metre than 11 oz.
- Freight: wide legs fold bulkier, so fewer pairs fit a carton.

Questions buyers ask about wide leg jeans
Why not make wide leg jeans in lighter denim to save cost?
Because the weight is what makes the leg fall. A wide leg in 9 or 10 oz denim clings, creases and flaps instead of hanging in a line. If the price must come down, change trims, wash or details first and keep the cloth at 12 oz or above.
What inseam should wide leg jeans be cut to?
To the shoe they will be worn with. For trainers the hem usually just clears the ground; for heels it is cut longer. Put the inseam per size and the heel height on the spec, then check both on the fit sample with the right shoes on.
Can wide leg jeans have stretch?
A little. About 1 percent elastane adds comfort at the waist and seat without changing the hang much. More stretch makes the leg cling and lose its line, which is why many wide legs are fully rigid.
