Rigid wide leg

Low stretch wide leg
11 to 12 oz denim with up to about 1 percent elastane. The stretch eases the seat and bib rather than the leg, which is cut wide anyway.
Barrel leg
A curved leg, fuller at the knee and narrowing slightly to the hem. It needs shaped side seams and a heavier denim to hold the curve.
Sailor front
A buttoned front flap in place of a fly, with a high bib and wide legs. The row of buttons across the flap is part of the look and of the cost.
Long length wide leg
Extra inseam for wear with heels, often offered as a second length. The hem sits just off the floor in shoes, so its tolerance is tight.
How to brief a wide leg overalls manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Denim weight and stretch
- Weight in ounces after washing, usually 11 to 14 oz, and elastane at no more than 1 to 2 percent. More stretch and the leg starts to cling.
- Thigh, knee and hem
- Measured flat in centimetres. Wide leg hems usually run 26 to 32 cm across on a mid size, with the knee close to the hem width.
- Inseam and lengths
- Inseam per size, usually 76 to 84 cm for a full length, and whether a long length is offered for wear with heels.
- Preshrinking
- Ask for denim preshrunk at the mill. Rigid denim that is not preshrunk can shrink several percent in its first wash and wreck the length.

- Weighs the bulk denim per square metre to confirm it matches the 11 oz or heavier cloth approved; a lighter lot loses the hang.
- AATCC 135
- Shrinkage of the fabric in home laundering, for US buyers. Run it on rigid denim before cutting, and cut the pattern to the result.
- ISO 105-X12
- Rubbing fastness. Dark rigid denim crocks heavily when new, onto shoes, bags and pale seats; ask for dry and wet grades and agree a floor.
What moves the price of wide leg overalls
- Heavier denim at 12 to 14 oz, which costs more per metre than fashion weights.
- More fabric per garment: wide leg panels and poor nesting in the marker.
- A second, longer length with its own pattern and marker.
- Chainstitch hemming on a dedicated machine, against a standard lockstitch hem.
- Washing heavy denim, which takes more water and machine time than lighter cloth.
Lead time for wide leg overalls

Questions buyers ask about wide leg overalls
Why use 11 oz or heavier denim for wide leg overalls?
Weight is what makes a wide leg hang. Lighter denim moves with every step and folds round the legs, so the shape reads as baggy rather than wide. From around 11 oz the leg drops cleanly and keeps its width, which is the point of the style.
Can wide leg overalls have stretch?
A little. Up to about 1 percent elastane makes the seat and bib easier to wear without making the leg cling. Above about 2 percent the leg starts to follow the body and the wide shape is lost. Rigid denim gives the cleanest hang.
What inseam should wide leg overalls have?

Will heavy rigid denim soften?
Yes, with wear and washing. A rinse or enzyme wash in production softens the hand a little without losing the hang. A heavy stone wash softens more but thins the fabric, and on heavy denim it costs more machine time.
