Women's underwear beyond the panty is a range of structured and soft pieces: bras with moulded or cut and sewn cups, wire free bralettes, camisoles and slips, often sold beside a matching brief. Buyers are lingerie labels, department store own brands and online intimates brands. A women's underwear manufacturer in Bangladesh works mostly in nylon elastane, microfibre and lace, with foam, wires and small metal or nylon parts bought in.
A bra has more components and more sizes than any other piece in an intimates range, so Garments Hub BD builds the enquiry around a bill of materials: fabric, foam, elastic, tape, hooks, rings, sliders and wire. Each quote prices the same list. Fit rounds are planned into the sample stage, and your tech pack is used for this order only.
Kinds of bra and women's underwear
Moulded cup bras
Cups formed from foam laminated to fabric and heat moulded, smooth under a fitted top. Each cup size needs its own mould, which is why moulded ranges keep the size grid tight at first.
Cut and sew soft cup bras
Cups made from two or three seamed pieces of fabric or lace, lined or unlined, with or without an underwire. They reach larger cup sizes more easily than moulded cups, because a new size is a pattern, not a mould.
Wire free bras and bralettes
No wire, often a wide band, pulled on or closed with a short hook and eye. Bralettes size in S to XL rather than band and cup, which keeps the size count low for a new brand.
Camisoles and slips
Cut and sewn from jersey, satin finish microfibre or a viscose blend, with adjustable straps and lace or bound edges. They sew on a lingerie line but size like tops, so they carry far fewer sizes than a bra.
How to brief a women's underwear manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Size system
- Name the market. UK and US bands step in 2 inches (32, 34, 36), EU bands in 5 cm (70, 75, 80), and cup letters diverge after D. One style can carry a dual size label.
- Cup build
- Foam type and thickness, lined or unlined, moulded or seamed, and whether a pocket for removable pads is wanted.
- Underband elastic
- Width, usually 12 to 25 mm, plush back or not, and the stretch you expect. The underband carries most of the support, so its elastic deserves the closest specification.
- Hook and eye tape
- Hooks across, usually one to four depending on band and cup size, and rows of eyes, usually three. Give the tape colour so it is dyed to match the band.
- Straps, rings and sliders
- Strap elastic width, usually 10 to 18 mm, and whether rings and sliders are coated metal or nylon. Metal parts worn against skin bring an EU nickel release rule.
- Wire and channelling
- Wire size per cup and the channel tape that covers it. Wires are bought in by size, so they add to the component minimums.
- Fit sampling
- Your base size, the fit model or form, and how many rounds you allow, usually two or three for a new bra block. Each round revises the pattern before grading.
Tests and rules for bras, camisoles and slips
- REACH Annex XVII, entry 27
- Bra hooks, rings, sliders and any exposed metal must release no more than 0.5 micrograms of nickel per square centimetre per week in the EU. Ask for a report per metal part.
- Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011
- Sets the fibre names on EU labels. Its Annex IV lets a bra label give fibre content for the whole piece or for the cup fabrics and the back separately; plan the label before the PP sample.
- OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100
- Moulded foam and the adhesive in laminated cups are components of the article. A certificate on the shell fabric alone does not cover the cup, so ask that the foam is named.
What moves the price of a bra
- Size count: every band and cup pair is a separate size with its own wire, cup and tape length.
- Mould tooling for moulded cups, one mould set per cup size.
- Component list: hooks, rings, sliders, wire, channelling, bows and labels, each bought in.
- Fabric and lace on the cup and wing, and how much is cut away around the cup shapes.
- Fit rounds, since each new block needs revised patterns before grading.
Lead time for women's underwear
Bras take longer than panties to reach bulk, because fit is settled over more rounds and the components come from several suppliers. Each sample round usually takes 7 to 14 days; bulk typically runs 30 to 60 days after PP approval. New moulds, custom dyed lace or a hook and eye tape dyed to match each add days. The quote states each step.
What we check on women's underwear before shipment
- Cup pairsLeft and right cups match in shape, depth and moulding, with no shine marks or creases left by the mould.
- Underband lengthUnderband measured relaxed and extended on each size, because a short band fits a size smaller than its label.
- Hook and eyeHooks line up with each row of eyes, close without force and are stitched square to the band.
- Straps and slidersStrap length at full extension, slider grip under pull, and rings sewn so the strap cannot twist through.
Questions buyers ask about women's underwear
How many sizes should a first bra order carry?
Fewer than most brands plan. A core grid of usually around 8 to 12 band and cup sizes keeps components and minimums under control, and every extra size adds a wire, a cup and often a mould. Bralettes in S to XL avoid the issue and suit a brand testing the category.
Can one bra be sold in both UK and EU sizes?
Yes, with a dual size label, because the garment is the same and only the naming differs: a UK 34 band is an EU 75. Cup letters diverge above D, so the label table has to be checked size by size. Agree the conversion before the PP sample.
Why does a bra need more fit rounds than a panty?
Small changes in the cup, the wire line and the underband all change the fit, and they interact. A new bra block usually needs two or three rounds on a fit model or form in the base size before grading. Adapting a block the factory has already fitted can save a round.
Can camisoles and slips go to the same factory as the bras?
Usually, since the same lingerie lines sew them, and keeping them together makes shade and lace matching easier. Camisoles size like tops and can share a fabric with the bra wing.
