Kinds of zip-up hoodie
Coil zip hoodie
A nylon coil zip, light, flexible and quiet, the usual choice on fleece. Choose it for most retail and club hoodies; gauge 5 is the common size on a full zip.
Metal zip hoodie
Metal teeth in a plain, antique or gunmetal finish for a heavier, workwear feel. Choose it for heavier fleece; it adds weight and needs a nickel check for EU sales.
Moulded tooth zip hoodie
Chunky moulded plastic teeth in a matching or contrast colour, strong and sporty. Choose it for outdoor and sports styles; it is stiffer than coil on light fleece.
Two way zip hoodie
Two sliders on one chain, so the zip opens from the hem as well as the neck and the wearer can sit without the front bunching. Choose it for longline and heavier hoodies.
Quarter zip hoodie
A pullover body with a short zip at the neck. Choose it for sports and golf ranges; the kangaroo pocket stays whole because the front is not split.
What to send a zip-up hoodie manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Zip type and gauge
- Coil, metal or moulded, and the gauge: usually 5 on hoodies, 3 on light terry, with 8 kept for heavy jackets. Say if you nominate a zip supplier.
- Slider and puller
- Locking or non locking slider, one way or two way, and the puller: a metal tab, a cord pull or a puller carrying your logo.
- Zip guard
- A fabric guard behind the teeth and a garage over the top stop, so metal never touches the chin or neck.
- Tape colour
- Tape matched to the body by lab dip, or a stock contrast. Dyed to match tapes take longer to source than stock shades.
- Split pockets
- Pocket opening, depth and the gap left at the zip, with both halves set at one height.
- Zip length per size
- The zip length for each size; an ungraded zip makes the front pucker in small sizes and gape in large ones.
Tests and certificates for zip-up hoodies

- Metal teeth, sliders and pullers in direct and prolonged skin contact must stay under 0.5 micrograms of nickel release per square centimetre per week for EU sales.
- OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100
- Certifies the whole article, so the zip tape, slider and puller must be covered as well as the fleece; ask whether the zip supplier holds its own certificate.
- ISO 5077
- Run with ISO 6330 washing procedures on the finished hoodie. If the fleece shrinks more than the zip tape, the front ripples along the zip after the first wash.
What moves the price of a zip-up hoodie
- The zip itself: metal and moulded zips cost more than coil, and nominated suppliers more than local stock.
- Extra operations: setting the zip, a guard and two pocket halves adds several steps over a pullover.
- Two way sliders: a second slider and a separating box at the hem add trim cost.
- Dyed to match tapes: a custom tape colour costs more and takes longer than a stock shade.
- Pullers: metal or logo pullers raise the trim cost per piece.
Lead time for zip-up hoodies
A zip-up hoodie usually samples in 7 to 14 days with a stock zip. A dyed to match tape, a nominated zip supplier or a logo puller can add days or weeks, so zips are ordered early. Zip-up bulk then needs 30 to 60 days from the written PP approval, and the zips must be in the factory before sewing starts. The quote confirms the dates with the zip supply included.

Questions buyers ask about zip-up hoodies
Metal or coil zip for a hoodie?
Coil for most hoodies: light, flexible, quiet and lower in cost. Metal suits heavier fleece and a workwear or vintage look, but it adds weight and needs a nickel check for the EU. Moulded plastic teeth sit between the two. Whichever you pick, match the gauge to the fleece weight.
Can the zip match the hoodie colour?
Yes. The tape can be dyed to match the fleece by lab dip, or picked from stock shades close to it. Dyed to match adds time, so decide before sampling, and approve tape and fleece together under one light. Stock shades cover black, navy and grey well.
Is a two way zip worth it?
On longline and heavier hoodies, yes: opening from the hem lets the wearer sit or reach a pocket without the front bunching. On a standard length hoodie, a one way zip is simpler, lighter and cheaper. On cropped styles a second slider has no room to work.
Why does a full zip hoodie cost more than a pullover?
The zip, the guard, the split pockets and the extra operations to set them. Fleece use is similar, but trims and sewing time per piece are higher, and a nominated zip can add more than the sewing does. A stock coil zip keeps the gap smallest.
