A button front denim dress opens from neckline to hem on a line of buttons, usually without a collar, in square neck, V neck and strappy sundress shapes. The buttons are the design and the fit risk at once: placed wrong, the front gapes at the bust and between buttons as the wearer moves. A button front denim dress manufacturer in Bangladesh has to grade the spacing with the size, not copy one spacing down every size.
Two factories on the bench quote your dress, and the desk lists button count, type and setting method on the comparison sheet, because a quote with fewer buttons, or sew through buttons in place of shanks, can look cheaper for the wrong reason. Gaping is judged on the fit sample on a form, and the photographs come to you.
Kinds of button front denim dress
Square neck button through
A square front neckline with buttons from neck to hem, sleeveless or with short puff sleeves. The top button sits on the neckline edge and needs a firm facing behind it.
V neck button through sundress
Narrow straps, a V front and a full line of buttons, usually with a fitted bodice. The V puts the first button close to the bust point, so its position decides gaping.
Tack button front
Jeans style metal shank buttons set through the placket on a press, often with matching rivets. Rugged and quick to fasten; each shank length must suit the placket thickness.
Snap front
Prong snaps instead of buttons, quick to dress and open in one pull. Even setting pressure matters, so a snap neither springs open nor tears the denim.
Concealed placket
A fly placket hides the buttons behind a fold of denim, with only the top button on show. It adds a layer and a sewing step, and hides small gaps between buttons.
How to brief a button front denim dress manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Button spacing by size
- Spacing in centimetres, usually 6 to 9 cm, with a rule for growth: the gap widens a few millimetres a size, or larger sizes take one more button.
- The bust button
- One button on the bust line in every size, with the rest spaced up and down from it. A hidden snap or hook beside it stops the front opening.
- Button type and size
- Metal shank, sew through in polyester or corozo, or prong snaps; size in lignes, where 24L is about 15 mm; finish and colour.
- Shank and thread shank
- Sew through buttons on a thick denim placket need a wound thread shank, or they sit tight and pull. Metal shanks need a length that suits the placket.
- Buttonholes
- Keyhole for shank buttons, straight for sew through, set vertically on the placket, cut clean, and sized to the button.
- Placket build
- Placket width and interlining. A soft placket in light denim lets the buttons droop and gape; a light interlining keeps the line straight.
Tests for a button front denim dress
- EU REACH Annex XVII, entry 27
- Nickel release from metal shank buttons and snap backs resting on skin, capped at 0.5 micrograms per square centimetre per week; ask for a report on the trim lot.
- OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100
- Harmful substance certification can cover buttons and snaps as well as denim. Ask whether the trim supplier's certificate covers the exact buttons nominated.
- ISO 2859-1
- The AQL sampling tables that set how many dresses are pulled for the button pull check at final inspection, by lot size.
What moves the price of a button front denim dress
- Button count: a full length front often carries 10 to 14 buttons.
- Metal shank buttons set on a press with a die, against sew through buttons sewn by machine.
- A concealed placket, which adds a fold of denim and two operations.
- A hidden bust snap or hook: one more trim and one more step per dress.
- Engraved or custom buttons, which need a die from the trim supplier and carry its minimum.
Lead time for button front denim dresses
Expect 7 to 14 days for a sample and 30 to 60 days of bulk after the PP sample is approved. Engraved buttons and custom snaps are made to order by the trim supplier, so allow extra days for the die and the first lot; plain stock buttons add no time. The quote confirms both stages.
What we check on button front denim dresses before shipment
- Button pullButtons and snaps on sampled dresses pulled with a gauge at the spec's force, commonly 90 newtons for 10 seconds, with nothing loosening or tearing.
- Gaping at the bustThe PP sample buttoned on a form: no gaps between buttons at the bust, and the hidden stay holding the front closed.
- Spacing per sizeButton positions measured on the smallest and largest sizes against the graded spec, with the bust button on the bust line.
- Shank settingMetal shank buttons fully set and not spinning, caps uncracked, and no denim cut around the shank.
Questions buyers ask about button front denim dresses
How do I stop a button front denim dress gaping at the bust?
Put a button on the bust line in every size and space the others from it. Add a hidden snap or hook beside it, and a light interlining in the placket. Judge the result on a fitted sample on a form, never on flat measurements.
Metal shank buttons or sew through buttons on a denim dress?
Shank buttons give the jeans look and need no sewing, but must be set properly and tested for nickel for the EU. Sew through buttons are lighter and suit softer, dressier shapes, with a thread shank on denim. Snaps are quickest to put on.
How many buttons does a full length button front dress need?
Enough to keep the gaps at 6 to 9 cm, which on a knee to midi length dress usually means 10 to 14. Fewer buttons cut cost and visibly add gaping. The count can grow by one in the larger sizes.
Can the buttons carry our name or logo?
Yes. Trim suppliers engrave shank buttons and snap caps from your artwork, with their own minimum and a die cost. Send the artwork with the enquiry so both quotes include the buttons and the extra days, and approve a button sample before the PP sample is sewn.
