Cotton totes are the printed bag of trade shows, bookshops, museums, grocers and brand launches: two cotton panels, two handles and a logo. Buyers choose them over plastic and jute when they want a soft, washable bag that folds small and takes fine print. A cotton tote bag manufacturer in Bangladesh usually sews them on garment or home textile lines from cloth bought by the ounce from weaving mills.

Garments Hub BD sends the bag size, cloth weight, handles and artwork to two factories on its bench, and both price the same cloth and print colours, so a cheaper offer cannot rest on thinner canvas. Organic or recycled claims go only to factories holding that certificate.

Kinds of cotton tote bag

Light sheeting giveaway totes

Plain weave cotton of usually 4 to 6 oz, flat with no gusset, with self fabric handles. The conference and promotional bag: light, folds small and prints cleanly in one or two colours.

Heavy canvas retail totes

Cotton canvas of usually 10 to 12 oz, often with side and base gussets and a turned top hem. It stands open when set down and carries books and groceries, so it suits a bag sold in a shop.

Dyed and printed fashion totes

Canvas dyed to a brand colour, or natural canvas with a large placement print, often with an inside pocket and a snap or zip top. Judged on colour and finish as much as strength.

Organic and recycled cotton totes

Organic cotton sold with GOTS paperwork, or recycled cotton spun from cutting waste and usually blended with other fibre for strength. Each claim narrows the mills and factories able to quote.

Jute cotton blend totes

Cloth woven by jute mills from jute and cotton yarn. It looks rustic like jute but feels softer and holds more print detail, and it comes from a jute mill rather than a cotton weaver.

How to specify a cotton tote bag

Cloth and weight
Sheeting, drill or canvas, with the weight in oz per square yard and the GSM beside it, because mills quote one and printers the other. Say natural, bleached or dyed.
Size, gusset and base
Width, height and gusset depth in centimetres, and whether the base is boxed, with or without a board. A flat tote and a boxed shopper of one width use very different cloth.
Handles
Self fabric or cotton webbing, width and length. Short handles, usually around 30 to 40 cm, are carried by hand; long handles, usually around 60 to 70 cm, go over the shoulder.
Handle anchor
Fixed inside the top hem with a box and cross or two rows of stitching, and how deep it sits. This is where a loaded tote gives way.
Print method and area
Screen print for flat colours on volume runs, heat transfer for small runs or photographic artwork. The gusset and handle anchors limit the usable print area.
Inside finish and packing
Overlocked, bound or French seams inside, any pocket or snap, and whether bags go in flat bundles or single in a polybag with a header card.

Tests to ask a cotton tote bag manufacturer in Bangladesh for

ISO 13935
Seam strength where the handle meets the bag and along the side seams. Ask for it on bulk cloth with the approved stitch, because a loaded tote opens at its seams first.
ISO 3801
Mass per unit area of woven cloth. It confirms the canvas is the ounce weight quoted, a saving a supplier can make without the buyer noticing.
GOTS
Certification from fibre to finished bag. A tote labelled organic needs at least 95 percent certified organic fibre, and one labelled made with organic at least 70 percent.
RCS or GRS
Recycled cotton claims: RCS from 5 percent recycled content, GRS from 20 percent with social, environmental and chemical criteria. Both are being replaced by the Materials Matter Standard, so check the certificate is current.

What moves the price of a cotton tote bag

  • Cloth weight: a 12 oz canvas tote uses over twice the cotton of a 5 oz one.
  • Gussets: a side and base gusset turns a two panel bag into a five panel one, with the extra cloth, seams and often a base board that brings.
  • Print colours and sides: each screen colour and each printed face adds a set up.
  • Dyed canvas against natural, plus the lab dip a brand colour needs.
  • Organic or certified recycled cotton, which costs more and narrows the mills that can supply it.

Lead time for cotton tote bags

Natural sheeting and canvas in common weights are usually held by mills, so a plain tote reaches cutting quickly. Dyed canvas adds a lab dip and a dye lot, organic and recycled cloth add certified sourcing, and each print needs screens and a strike off on the bulk cloth. The quote shows the days each of these adds.

What we check on cotton tote bags before shipment

  • Cloth weight per lotA cut swatch from each cloth lot weighed against the quoted ounce weight before cutting starts.
  • Handle loadSampled bags loaded to the stated weight and lifted by the handles, then the anchor stitching checked for pulled threads.
  • Print position and curePrint measured from the top hem and centre on sampled bags, then rubbed and flexed to confirm the ink is cured.
  • Hang and handle heightBags hung by their handles to check both sit at one height and the tote hangs level.

Questions buyers ask about cotton tote bags

What cloth weight should a promotional tote be?

For a giveaway carried home from an event, sheeting of usually 4 to 6 oz is enough and keeps cost down. A bag meant to last as a shopper, or to be sold, needs canvas of usually 10 to 12 oz. Drill of about 7 to 8 oz sits between.

What is the difference between a cotton tote and a jute cotton tote?

A cotton tote is woven only from cotton, soft and fine enough for detailed print. A jute cotton tote uses jute mill cloth that mixes the two yarns, so it looks coarser, stands stiffer and prints with less detail. Choose by the look the brand wants.

Can a cotton tote be made from organic or recycled cotton?

Yes. Organic needs GOTS certified cloth and a certified sewing unit, with a transaction certificate for the shipment. Recycled cotton is usually blended with other fibre for strength and documented under RCS or GRS. Name the claim in the enquiry, so only factories able to document it quote.

Screen print or heat transfer on a cotton tote?

Screen print for flat colours on runs where the screen cost spreads thinly; the ink sinks into the cotton and lasts. Heat transfer for small runs, many designs or photographic artwork, pressed one bag at a time. Heavy canvas needs more ink to cover its texture.
