Leather messenger bags, your specification
Made to your tech pack, fabric and colours by a factory matched to the order.
Private label
Your main label, care label, hangtag and polybag. Nominated trims accepted.
A messenger bag hangs from one long strap across the body and closes under a flap, so the flap is the face of the bag and the strap length decides who can wear it. Buyers are menswear and workwear labels, campus stores and office retailers. Anyone briefing a leather messenger bag manufacturer in Bangladesh should put the strap range, the closure and the flap build in writing.
No messenger bag unit is vetted with Garments Hub BD so far. For your enquiry the desk visits leather goods units that cut thick flap leather and set buckles, takes your sample or drawing along, and answers within 5 working days with a real quote or a straight no. You may book a third party inspector of your choice, and that report overrules the desk's own.
Kinds of leather messenger bag
Full flap messenger
The flap covers the whole front and closes with two buckle straps, often with magnetic snaps hidden under them. Usually sized for a laptop or A4 folders.
Half flap messenger
A shorter flap with one closure and a zipped pocket on the front below it. Quicker to open, lighter, and a little less leather per bag.
Postman satchel
A firm body in thick vegetable tanned leather with two buckles and a narrow gusset. The flap stands up on its own without a stiffener behind it.
Slim document messenger
A flat body with little gusset, made for papers and a tablet. A thin profile, often unlined, in a pull up leather whose waxes shift and lighten where it creases.
How to specify a leather messenger bag
- Strap adjustment range
- Shortest and longest strap length in millimetres, usually around 900 to 1400 mm, so the bag can sit at the hip on tall and short wearers alike.
- Strap width and pad
- Usually 38 to 50 mm wide, with or without a sliding shoulder pad. A wider strap spreads the weight of a laptop across the shoulder.
- Flap build
- One layer of thick leather, or thinner leather lined and backed with a board. State the flap overhang and how far it drops down the front.
- Closure
- Buckles with hidden magnetic snaps, a tuck lock, or a plain magnetic snap. Give the snap size and ask for a washer plate behind it.
- Pocket layout
- Every pocket listed with its size: under the flap, the back slip pocket, inner dividers and pen loops, drawn on one sheet.
- Leather thickness
- For a flap that stands on its own, vegetable tanned hide around 1.8 to 2.2 mm, about 4.5 to 5.5 oz, as one ounce is roughly 0.4 mm.
Tests and chemical lists for leather messenger bags
- ZDHC MRSL
- This list of chemicals banned from intentional use applies to the tannery and to any finishing done at the unit, not to the bag itself. Ask whether their chemical suppliers conform to it.
- ISO 105-X12
- Rubbing fastness for the textile shoulder pad or lining, dry and wet, graded 1 to 5. A dark pad rubs on a light shirt all day on a messenger strap.
- ISO 2859-1
- The sampling tables behind AQL inspection. On messengers, agree in writing that a flap which does not close square counts as a major defect, not a minor one.
What moves the price of a leather messenger bag
- Flap: a self standing thick hide costs more per bag than thinner leather backed with board.
- Closure: two buckles with hidden magnets mean more parts and fitting than a single snap.
- An adjustable strap with a shoulder pad adds hardware and padding.
- Each zipped pocket adds a zip, a facing and lining cuts.
- Vegetable tanned leather is slower to make at the tannery and usually dearer than chrome tanned.
Lead time for leather messenger bags
Messenger samples usually take 14 to 21 days, with bulk at 45 to 75 days after the PP sample is approved in writing. Thick vegetable tanned hide may have to be ordered from the tannery at the thickness asked for, which adds days. A custom buckle cast with a logo adds the mould and plating. The quote states the dates.
What we check on leather messenger bags before shipment
- Flap closes squareEvery flap lies flat and its closures meet their keepers without pulling the body out of line.
- Strap at full lengthThe strap set to its longest length and loaded; the adjuster must hold without slipping.
- Magnetic snap seatingSnaps backed by washer plates, centred on their marks, and closing with the same pull on every bag.
- Pockets to drawingPocket sizes and positions measured against the layout sheet, and under flap zips running freely.
Questions buyers ask about leather messenger bags
What strap length range suits most messenger bag wearers?
An adjustable range of around 900 to 1400 mm covers most adults wearing the bag across the body. Give the range in millimetres rather than writing adjustable. If the bag is also carried on one shoulder, the short end of the range matters more than the long end.
Buckle or magnetic snap on a messenger flap?
Buckles look right on a heritage messenger but are slow to open, so many designs keep buckle straps for looks with a magnetic snap underneath doing the work. A plain magnetic snap alone is cheaper and quicker. A tuck lock gives a firmer close on a thick flap.
Will a leather messenger flap curl over time?
A thin flap without backing can curl at the corners after months of heat and handling. A thick vegetable tanned hide, or a lined flap with a board, stays flat far longer. Ask for the sample to be made with the final flap build, not a stand in.
Can a messenger bag hold both a laptop and documents?
Yes, with a padded laptop pocket against the back wall and a document section in front of it. Send the device size in millimetres and the paper size. The extra section adds depth, so the gusset grows and the bag gets heavier.
