The shoulder seam drops down the upper arm, the body is wide and square, and the fleece is heavier, usually 340 to 400 GSM, so the shape stands away from the body instead of collapsing onto it. A wide body cut short, ending at or above the waist, often with a deep rib or a raw edge hem. Choose it for women's and youth fashion ranges.
Longline oversized hoodie
Extra body length on a dropped shoulder, sometimes with side splits at the hem. Choose it for layered looks; it uses more fabric than the other oversized kinds.
Unisex oversized hoodie
One block sold to men and women and graded across fewer sizes. Choose it to keep a range simple; the size chart has to explain how it fits each wearer.
How to specify an oversized hoodie
- Body width
- Chest width measured flat about 2.5 cm below the armhole for each size; this is the measurement that makes the garment oversized.
- Body length
- Length from the high point of the shoulder to the hem for each size, plus the hem rib depth or raw hem allowance.
- Shoulder drop
- How far the shoulder seam falls below the natural shoulder, in centimetres, and the shoulder width that results.
- Sleeve length
- Measured from the dropped shoulder seam, which is shorter than on a regular hoodie of the same reach. Say where the measurement starts.
- Fleece weight
- Usually 340 to 400 GSM. Lighter fleece in an oversized cut droops and loses the square line.
- Grading steps
- The change between sizes for each measurement. Oversized blocks usually grade in smaller steps than regular ones, often across fewer sizes.

What moves the price of an oversized hoodie
- Consumption: a wider, longer body takes more fleece per piece than a regular hoodie.
- Fleece weight: heavier fleece also costs more per metre, so fabric cost rises twice over.
- Marker efficiency: wide panels nest less well across the fabric width, which raises cutting waste.
- Sampling: a new oversized block usually needs a fit round before it is right.
- Wash finishes: a garment wash for a softer hand adds a process and needs shrinkage control.
Lead time for oversized hoodies
A new oversized block usually needs a fit sample before the PP sample, so plan two sample rounds of 7 to 14 days each. Fleece at the heavier end may be knitted to order, which adds days. With the PP sample approved in writing, oversized bulk runs 30 to 60 days. Repeat orders on an approved block skip the fit round, and the quote confirms the dates either way.

Questions buyers ask about oversized hoodies
Can we order an oversized hoodie by size label alone?
No. An oversized hoodie is a block defined by measurements. Send body width, length, shoulder drop and sleeve for each size, or a reference garment to measure. A size label alone gets you a regular hoodie a size up, which looks different on the body. Many labels send a reference garment along with the chart.
Why use heavier fleece for an oversized hoodie?
So the shape holds. A wide body in light fleece collapses and clings at the shoulders. At 340 to 400 GSM the fleece stands away from the body and keeps its square line through washing. Lighter fleece can work in a relaxed cut, but not in a true boxy block, and the difference shows after the first wash.
Does an oversized hoodie cost more than a regular one?
Usually, yes: more fabric per piece, heavier fabric and more waste in cutting, while the sewing is similar. The difference shows clearly when both factories quote the same block. Grading in smaller steps also stops the largest size using far more fabric than the smallest.
Can one oversized block be sold as unisex?
Yes, and many labels do it. Grade it across fewer sizes, and give fit notes for men and women on the size chart so shoppers choose the right size first time. Check sleeve length on the shortest and tallest wearers in the fit round, since one block has to cover both.
