Skirted overalls put an overall top, with bib, straps and clasps, on a skirt instead of trousers. Unlike a pinafore dress they keep the overall's construction: a waistband, side openings with buttons, patch or five pocket details and rivets. Fashion buyers use them to stretch an overall range into skirts. A skirted overalls manufacturer in Bangladesh treats the skirt as a new block, with length and sweep set so the wearer can walk and sit.
The desk sends your skirtall pack to two factories on the bench. When the range also has dungarees, the quotes show which pattern pieces can be shared, usually the bib and straps, and which cannot, so the second pattern set and sample are priced openly instead of surfacing at the fit stage.
Kinds of skirted overalls
Mini overall skirt
A short A line skirt on a waistband, with a bib and clasped straps. The fashion volume shape, sometimes finished with a raw hem or a front split.
Midi overall skirt
Below the knee, straight or A line, with a front or back slit for walking. It uses far more denim and needs careful hem levelling after the wash.
Pencil overall skirt
A straight, close fitting skirt with a back vent. Firmer denim keeps the line, and the vent length decides how freely the wearer can walk.
Button front overall skirt
Buttons run down the skirt front from the waistband. Easier to put on and a strong vertical line, but the buttons need even spacing and a pull check.
How to brief a skirted overalls manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Skirt length
- Length from the waist seam to the hem, per size: usually 40 to 45 cm for a mini and 70 to 80 cm for a midi on a mid size.
- Sweep
- Hem circumference in centimetres. A narrow sweep on a straight skirt needs a vent or slit to walk in, with its length specified.
- Waistband and bib
- Waistband height, how the bib joins it, and whether the bib centre lines up with a skirt seam or a fly.
- Side openings
- Button count per side or a side zip, and where each opening ends on the hip.
- Shared or new pieces
- When dungarees are ordered too, mark which pieces repeat. The skirt is always a new block with its own pattern set and sample.
- Pockets and rivets
- Five pocket, patch or no pockets on the skirt, and rivet positions. Rivets on a skirt hip catch on chair backs, so placement matters.
Tests for skirted overalls
- AATCC 150
- Garment shrinkage in home laundering for US buyers. On a skirtall ask for skirt length and sweep before and after, since both move in denim.
- EU REACH Annex XVII, entry 27
- Nickel release from clasps, bib buttons and side buttons that sit against the skin, at most 0.5 micrograms per square centimetre per week for the EU.
- ISO 105-X12
- Rubbing fastness. A dark overall skirt crocks onto pale seats and handbags when new; ask for dry and wet grades on the washed garment.
What moves the price of skirted overalls
- A new skirt block, with pattern development and its own fit sample.
- Skirt length and sweep, which set how much denim each piece uses.
- Slits and vents, faced or bar tacked, against a plain hem.
- The overall hardware set of clasps, sliders, bib buttons and side buttons.
- Buttons down the skirt front, adding trims and buttonholes to every piece.
Lead time for skirted overalls
A skirted overall sample usually takes 7 to 14 days and bulk 30 to 60 days after the PP sample is approved in writing. Adding skirtalls to a dungarees order means a second style with its own sample, which can run alongside the first but adds review time. The quote shows dates for each style.
What we check on skirted overalls before shipment
- Hem level and lengthHem level all round, and skirt length from the waist seam on several sizes, measured after washing.
- Bib alignmentBib centre lined up with the skirt centre front, and the bib to waistband seam straight and bar tacked at each end.
- Walking easeOn the PP sample, the slit or sweep allows a full stride without the skirt riding up or the vent tearing.
- Waistband and openingsWaistband even in height all round, side buttons aligned with their holes, and openings lying flat over the hip when closed.
Questions buyers ask about skirted overalls
Is a skirted overall the same as a denim pinafore dress?
No. A skirted overall keeps the overall's construction, with a waistband, side openings and overall hardware, and the bib sits on top of the skirt. A pinafore is a dress, usually cut without a waistband, often with a square neck or simple straps.
Can my dungarees pattern be used for the skirt version?
Partly. The bib, straps and often the back waist can be shared. The skirt is a new block, and moving from legs to a skirt changes the waist and hip fit, so plan for two pattern sets and two samples.
What skirt length and sweep should the spec give?
Give both in centimetres, length from the waist seam. A mini usually sits around 40 to 45 cm and a midi around 70 to 80 cm on a mid size. A straight skirt with a narrow sweep needs a vent or slit.
Do I need separate samples for skirtalls and dungarees?
Yes. Each has its own pattern set and fit, so each needs a sample. They can be sampled side by side to save time, and the hardware, thread colour and wash can be approved once for both styles, so only the fit is judged twice.
