Twill shirts, your specification

Made to your tech pack, fabric and colours by a factory matched to the order.

Private label

Your main label, care label, hangtag and polybag. Nominated trims accepted.

Twill is woven in a stepped pattern that forms a fine diagonal rib across the face. It drapes better and creases less than poplin, and looks smoother than oxford. That middle position is why buyers use it: office shirts that travel, smart casual ranges, and uniform shirts that still look pressed in the evening. A twill shirt manufacturer in Bangladesh needs a brief on structure, yarn and finish, because all three show in the finished shirt.

Garments Hub BD asks two factories on its bench to quote on one cloth description and one finish reference, so a price gap comes from the make and not from a cheaper twill. If you want a strength test on peached cloth, name it on the quote form and it is built into the timeline before cutting. The direction of the diagonal on each panel is photographed at inline inspection.

Kinds of twill shirt

Fine two ply twill

Two ply yarns in a tight 2/1 or 2/2 twill with a crisp finish. The smart end: office and travel shirts that hold a collar and resist creasing through a long day.

Soft hand twill

Peached or enzyme finished for a suede like touch without a raised nap. Suits casual and smart casual ranges; the finish costs some strength, so it needs a tensile check.

Herringbone

The diagonal reverses at set intervals to form a zigzag. It adds texture to a plain coloured shirt and needs the chevrons aligned at the centre front.

Dobby twill

Small woven figures, dots or diamonds, worked into the twill on a dobby loom. A step up in texture for formal and occasion ranges, needing a dobby loom set for the figure and carrying a higher cloth price.

Garment washed twill

A firmer twill sewn first and washed after making, which softens the hand and gives a lived in look. The diagonal survives; shade and size move, so both are approved on a washed garment.

How to specify a twill shirt

Twill structure
State 2/1 or 2/2 and the direction of the diagonal. A fine, low rib reads dressier; a pronounced rib reads casual and hides creases better.
Yarn and spinning
Give the count and ask for compact spun yarn if the face must be smooth. Compact spinning lays the fibres flatter, so the cloth is less hairy and pills less.
Finish
Name it: crisp, softened, peached or enzyme washed, and send a hand reference. Approve the finish on bulk cloth, since a lab run of the finish can feel different.
Pattern alignment
For herringbone and dobby, state which features must align at the centre front placket, cuffs and collar points, with a tolerance.
Collar choice
Twill carries a spread or cutaway collar for office wear and a button down for casual. Give collar height and an interlining weight that suits the cloth's body.

Tests for twill shirting

ISO 13934-1
Tensile strength of woven fabric. Peaching and enzyme finishes take strength out of cotton twill, so test the finished cloth and agree a minimum in newtons before cutting.
ISO 12945-1
Pilling in the pilling box. Soft hand finishes bring short fibres to the surface, and this shows whether they roll into pills after wear.
AATCC 135
Dimensional change of fabric in home laundering, used by US buyers. Run it on twill before a garment wash so the pattern allowance starts from a measured figure.

What sets the price at a twill shirt manufacturer in Bangladesh

  • Two ply yarns against single yarns, which cost more and weave a firmer, smoother twill.
  • Herringbone and dobby structures, which need their own loom set up and often carry higher mill minimums.
  • Peaching or enzyme finishing as an extra pass on the cloth, plus the strength test that should follow it.
  • Garment washing after sewing, priced per piece, with extra cloth in the pattern for shrinkage.
  • Chevron alignment on herringbone, which adds marker planning and cutting time.

Lead time for twill shirts

Fit samples on a stock twill usually take 7 to 14 days. A herringbone or dobby developed for you adds weaving and finishing time at the mill before a sample in the real cloth is possible. Bulk twill shirts usually take 30 to 60 days once the PP sample is approved in writing, and a garment wash or a strength test on peached cloth adds days. The quote gives the dates.

What we check on twill shirts before shipment

  • Diagonal directionEach panel is checked for twill running the same way on fronts, collar and cuffs. A panel cut face down reads as a shade change.
  • Finish against standardBulk cloth is compared with the approved hand reference by touch and by eye, since peaching levels drift between batches.
  • Chevron alignmentOn herringbone, the zigzag is checked at the centre front placket and the collar points against the agreed tolerance.
  • Seam puckerSide and sleeve seams are checked after a wash for pucker, which a dense twill shows when thread tension or stitch density is wrong.

Questions buyers ask about twill shirts

When should I choose twill over poplin for a shirt range?

Choose twill when the shirt has to look neat at the end of a day or a journey. Its diagonal structure creases less and drapes more than poplin of similar weight. Poplin stays the crisper, flatter cloth for a formal shirt worn fresh.

Does a peached finish weaken the cloth?

It can. Peaching abrades the surface to raise a fine touch, and that takes some strength from the yarn. Agree a minimum tensile figure and test the finished cloth to ISO 13934-1 before cutting, not the cloth as it was before finishing.

Is herringbone priced higher than plain twill?

Usually, yes. The weave reverses at intervals, which needs its own loom set up, and mills often set a higher minimum for it. Cutting also takes longer when the chevrons must align at the placket, and the marker uses a little more cloth.

Can a twill shirt be garment washed and still look smart?

Yes, with a gentle rinse and softener rather than a stone or enzyme wash. The diagonal stays visible, and the collar keeps its shape if the interlining is chosen for washing. Approve the wash on a full garment in the sample size.
