Denim shirts, your specification

Made to your tech pack, fabric and colours by a factory matched to the order.

Private label

Your main label, care label, hangtag and polybag. Nominated trims accepted.

A denim shirt is cut from light indigo cloth, either a light twill denim, 2/1 or 3/1, or chambray, a plain weave with an indigo warp and a white weft. Brands sell it as a casual layer, a western shirt with pointed yokes and snaps, or a work shirt, and the same cloth makes a women's shirt dress. A denim shirt manufacturer in Bangladesh earns the order in the laundry: the shade a buyer approves is created by the wash, not on the loom.

Garments Hub BD asks two factories on its bench to quote on one wash recipe and shade target, so the prices compare. Washes are approved on a full sewn garment, and that approved piece becomes the shade standard for bulk. Wash loads are photographed during production, and factories are matched to the certificates your customer asks for.

Kinds of denim shirt

Chambray shirt

Plain weave at the lighter end, usually 4.5 to 5 oz. Softer and cooler than twill denim, with a flecked look from the white weft. The summer and smart casual choice.

Light denim work shirt

2/1 or 3/1 twill at about 5.5 to 6.5 oz, button front, two flap pockets and a straight hem. Takes heavier washes and wears in like jeans.

Western snap shirt

Pointed front and back yokes, snaps at front and cuffs, and flap pockets with a pointed or scalloped edge. Snaps and pieced yokes add trims and operations to the price.

Washed casual denim shirt

Enzyme or stone washed for a faded, soft finish, often with a button down collar. The shade comes from the wash, so expect variation inside an agreed band.

Denim shirt dress

The women's relative: the shirt block lengthened to the knee or below, with a belt or tie waist. Graded on length as well as chest, and washed in the shirts' recipe.

How to specify a denim shirt

Cloth and weight
Give twill or chambray and the weight in oz per square yard after washing. One oz per square yard is about 34 GSM, so 6 oz denim is about 203 GSM.
Wash recipe
Name rinse, enzyme, stone and enzyme, or bleach, and send a reference garment for shade and hand. Seams and pockets fade differently from flat cloth.
Shade band
Agree light, target and dark limits for bulk. Garments in one wash load vary a little, so a band is honest where a single shade is not.
Front closure
Snaps or buttons, with snap type, cap finish and size. Snaps need a reinforced facing and a setting die that suits the cloth weight.
Yoke and pockets
Draw the yoke shape front and back and the pocket flap edge. Western yokes are pieced and topstitched, which changes consumption and sewing time.
Thread
Contrast or tonal topstitching, and its colour after washing. Cotton thread picks up indigo in the wash; polyester core thread stays brighter.

Tests a denim shirt manufacturer in Bangladesh should run

ISO 105-X12 or AATCC 8
Colour fastness to rubbing, dry and wet. Indigo rubs off onto skin, bags and pale seats, and the wet grade usually comes out lower than the dry. Agree both before the wash is fixed.
AATCC 61
Accelerated colour fastness to washing, used by US buyers. It shows how much indigo a washed shirt still releases onto other laundry.
ISO 3801
Mass per unit area of woven fabric. Use it to confirm the oz weight of bulk cloth after washing, since 4.5 oz chambray and 6.5 oz denim wear very differently.

What moves the price of a denim shirt

  • The wash recipe: a rinse costs least, enzyme and stone washes more, bleach and multi step washes most.
  • Snap fronts and cuffs, priced per snap set plus the setting operation.
  • Pieced western yokes and shaped pocket flaps, which add cutting and topstitching.
  • Cloth weight, and whether the denim is rigid or carries stretch.
  • Length: a shirt dress uses far more cloth and needs its own grading.

Lead time for denim shirts

Development samples usually take 7 to 14 days each, and a new wash may need more than one round before the shade is right. Bulk denim shirts usually take 30 to 60 days after written PP approval, with the laundry stage inside that window. Washes with several steps, or cloth woven to order, add days. The quote names the timing for your wash.

What we check on denim shirts before shipment

  • Shade against the bandGarments from each wash load are laid against the approved light, target and dark limits, and pieces outside the band are pulled before packing.
  • Snap settingSampled snaps are opened, closed, twisted and pulled to find loose caps and split sockets, faults that show after a few wears.
  • Yoke pointsWestern yoke points meet at the same height on both fronts, and the topstitching follows the edge without wandering.
  • Twist after washSide seams on washed garments are checked for twist, since twill denim can torque in the laundry and pull the seam forward.

Questions buyers ask about denim shirts

Why approve the wash on a garment instead of a fabric swatch?

Because the shade changes at every seam, pocket and fold in the wash. A swatch shows flat cloth only. The approved garment becomes the reference for every bulk wash load, so it should be a full shirt in the sample size.

Will every denim shirt in the order be the same shade?

No. Garments washed in different loads vary slightly, which is why a band with light and dark limits is agreed. Factories usually sort finished garments by shade inside the band, so each carton holds one shade and a store receives matching stock.

Snaps or buttons on a denim shirt?

Snaps for a western or workwear look; buttons for a classic casual shirt. For the EU, metal snaps in prolonged contact with skin must meet the nickel release limit in REACH Annex XVII, entry 27, so ask for compliant snaps.

Can the same denim make a matching shirt dress?

Yes, and it is a common way to extend a range. The dress needs its own block and length grading, and it should go through the same wash recipe so its shade sits with the shirts. Quote it as its own line.
