A gym towel is a small towel for wiping sweat during training and covering a bench or mat. It has to be light, dry fast and survive frequent hot washing in a gym's own laundry. Gym chains, fitness studios, sports clubs and promotional buyers order them with a logo, often for members or events. A gym towel manufacturer in Bangladesh makes them in cotton waffle, microfibre or light terry.
Garments Hub BD sends your logo file and towel spec together, so each factory quotes the towel and its embroidery or print as one price. If you want an antimicrobial or quick dry claim on the pack, the claim and the test behind it are settled before the sample, so the wording you print matches what the report shows.
Kinds of gym towel
Cotton waffle sweat towels
A honeycomb weave with no loops, light for its size and quick to dry. It feels crisp rather than plush and holds an embroidered logo flat.
Microfibre gym towels
Split polyester and polyamide fibre with a suede or waffle face, light and fast drying, and folded small for a kit bag. It needs a cooler wash than cotton and can feel dry to the touch.
Light terry sweat towels
Loop terry at the light end of the scale, typically 300 to 400 GSM, giving the familiar towel feel at a low weight. The usual base for gym chain and club logo orders.
Bench towels with a zip pocket
A longer towel with a zipped pocket at one end for keys and a phone, sometimes with a clip or magnet that holds it to the bench. The pocket needs its own pattern and sample.
How to brief a gym towel manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Construction
- Name waffle, microfibre or light terry and the GSM. Lighter towels dry faster after sweat; heavier ones feel closer to a bath towel and stay damp longer.
- Size
- Give finished sizes after washing: a sweat towel is usually around 40 by 80 centimetres, and a bench towel longer, to cover a seat.
- Logo method
- Embroidery suits terry and waffle, printing suits microfibre, and a woven jacquard logo suits large runs. Give logo size, position and thread or ink colours.
- Pocket and hardware
- For a zip pocket give its size, zip type and length, and say whether a plastic coil zip is wanted to keep weight down and avoid rust in damp kit bags.
- Finishes and claims
- If you want an antimicrobial or odour control finish, state the exact claim and how many washes it must last, so the test can be planned with the sample.
- Colour
- Dark shades hide sweat marks; whites need bleach tolerance in gym laundry. Give shades with the wash temperature the towels will meet.
Tests for gym towels
- AATCC 197
- Vertical wicking: the height water climbs a strip of towel fabric in set times. It shows how fast waffle, microfibre and terry take up sweat, not how fast they dry; ask for a drying rate test by property before a quick dry claim.
- AATCC 195
- Moisture management, which maps how sweat passes through a towel fabric and spreads across it. It supports a claim that a microfibre or waffle towel pulls sweat away from the skin.
- ISO 105-E04
- Colour fastness to perspiration, graded 1 to 5, a higher grade meaning less change and staining. A dark gym towel pressed on sweaty skin can stain clothing and benches if the shade fails it.
What moves the price of a gym towel
- Logo stitch count: a dense embroidered logo is a large share of the cost of a small towel.
- Fibre: microfibre and cotton waffle differ in material cost and in how they are decorated.
- Zip pockets, clips and magnets, each a trim plus a sewing step.
- Antimicrobial finishes, plus the laboratory test that backs the claim on the pack.
- Individual retail or event packing instead of bulk folding for a gym laundry.
Lead time for gym towels
A gym towel sample with an embroidered logo usually takes 7 to 14 days, with logo digitising at the start; a zip pocket towel needs its own pattern and sits at the long end. Bulk gym towels usually follow 30 to 60 days after pre-production approval. An antimicrobial finish adds a laboratory test before and after washing, which adds days, so tell us any event or launch date with the enquiry; the quote confirms the timings.
What we check on gym towels before shipment
- Embroidery backing and densityLogos are checked for puckering, loose threads and backing left showing, since a gym towel is washed often and seen up close.
- Zip pocket functionEach sampled zip is run end to end and the pocket seams pulled, because a pocket that splits loses the phone inside it.
- Drying checkWetted towels from the lot hang beside the approved sample to confirm they dry in a similar time.
- Pack claims against the reportLabels and packs are read against the test report, so no printed claim goes further than the report supports.
Questions buyers ask about gym towels
Waffle, microfibre or terry for a gym towel?
Waffle for a light cotton towel that dries fast and takes embroidery well. Microfibre for a towel that weighs less and folds smaller than cotton, with full colour prints. Light terry for the familiar towel feel at a low weight. Many gym chains pick terry or waffle because members expect cotton.
Can I put an antimicrobial claim on a gym towel?
Only with a laboratory report on the finished towel, tested before and after the number of washes you claim. Finishes fade with laundering, so a claim of lasting protection needs testing to match. Some markets regulate claims on treated articles, so check the wording with your compliance adviser before printing it.
Embroidery or print for a gym towel logo?
Embroidery on terry and waffle, because the stitches sit above the pile and last through hot washing. Print on microfibre, where sublimation gives full colour edge to edge. A small embroidered logo keeps cost and stiffness down; a large dense one makes that area heavier and slower to dry.
How quickly should a gym towel dry?
There is no set figure, so compare like with like. Hang the wetted pre-production sample beside a reference towel in the same room and time both, and if you plan a quick dry claim on the pack, ask the laboratory for a drying rate test by property, since AATCC 197 wicking shows take up rather than drying.
