A hooded trench coat adds a hood to the trench, either sewn into the neckline or fastened under the collar so it can come off. It suits a commuter or casual range where the coat must work in rain without an umbrella. A hooded trench coat manufacturer in Bangladesh builds the collar around the hood: a fixed hood replaces the classic collar, while a detachable one needs a collar that looks finished on its own.

Tell both factories how the hood attaches and how the neck should look with it off, with a reference coat if you have one. They then price the same collar build, and the fit sample can be judged with the hood up, down and removed, which is where hood faults show.

Kinds of hooded trench coat

Fixed hood trench

The hood is sewn into the neckline in place of the turn down collar, often with a stand at the front. Simple to make and tight against rain at the neck, but the hood is always there.

Zip off hood trench

The hood zips into a channel under the collar, which keeps its full shape when the hood is off. The zip and channel add parts and a trim lead time.

Stud on hood trench

Press studs inside the collar stand hold the hood. Quicker to attach than buttons and cheaper than a zip, but the studs need a nickel test for the EU.

Button on hood trench

Buttons inside the collar pass through buttonholes along the hood's base. A traditional look, slow to attach, and the hood's buttonholes must be strong.

How to specify a hooded trench coat

Attachment
Fixed, zip, studs or buttons. Each needs a different neck: a stand for a fixed hood, a channel for a zip, a reinforced stand for studs or buttons.
Hood shape
Two or three panels, hood height and depth, and the face opening. A stiffened peak keeps rain off the face but adds a piece.
Collar with the hood off
For a detachable hood the collar must sit and close properly alone. Draw it with and without the hood and approve both on the fit sample.
Hood adjuster
A back tab with a button, or a toggle at the nape, tightens the hood without a drawcord. If a drawcord is used, give its length and end stops.
Hood lining
The body lining, a contrast check, or unlined with bound seams. A lined hood is warmer and hides seams but adds bulk at the collar.
Cloth
A tightly woven poly cotton or cotton gabardine with a water repellent finish, since the hood takes the rain first.

Tests that apply to a hooded trench coat

ISO 4920
Spray test for water repellency. The hood crown is where rain lands first, so ask for the rating on the finished cloth after the agreed washes, not only new.
ISO 811
Hydrostatic head. It matters only if the coat is sold as waterproof, which also takes a coated or laminated cloth and taped seams around the hood; a repellent hood will not pass.
REACH Annex XVII, entry 27
Press studs at the neck and a metal zip puller sit against the skin, so the stud and zip supplier should provide a nickel release report for the EU.

What moves the price of a hooded trench coat

  • Attachment: a fixed hood costs least, studs or buttons sit in the middle, a zip channel costs most.
  • Collar build: a detachable hood needs a finished collar underneath, which adds pattern pieces and pressing.
  • Hood panels and lining: a lined three panel hood costs more than an unlined two panel one.
  • Trims: zip, studs or a toggle adjuster, each with its own supplier and test.
  • A waterproof claim, which needs coated cloth and seam taping and moves the coat up a price band.

Lead time for hooded trench coats

A detachable hood adds a zip or stud supply to the trim list, and the fit sample has to pass three ways: hood up, hood down and hood off. The first fit round often changes the collar stand. A waterproof build with taped seams adds a further step in bulk. The quote shows which applies, and order confirmation to shipment is usually 60 to 90 days.

What we check on hooded trench coats before shipment

  • Hood fitWith the hood up, the face opening sits evenly and the hood neither pulls the collar back nor lifts the front of the coat.
  • Detachable fasteningEvery zip, stud or button on the hood fastens and releases cleanly, with no stud tearing out of thin cloth.
  • Collar without hoodWith the hood off, the collar lies flat and closes, and no zip tape or stud is on show.
  • Hood seamThe hood's centre seam runs straight from forehead to nape and lines up with the centre back.

Questions buyers ask about hooded trench coats

Fixed or detachable hood on a trench coat?

Fixed if the coat is sold as a rain coat for daily commuting: it is simpler, cheaper and keeps water out at the neck. Detachable if the range wants a coat that also works as a classic trench in the office. Detachable costs more because of the second collar build and the fastening.

Zip, studs or buttons for a detachable hood?

A zip gives a clean collar and a secure fit, at the highest cost. Studs are quick to use and mid priced, but need a nickel release test for the EU and a reinforced stand to hold them. Buttons look traditional and cost least in trims, but the hood is slow to put on and take off.

Can a hooded trench coat be waterproof?

Only with a coated or laminated cloth and taped seams, including the hood seams, tested for hydrostatic head under ISO 811. Most trench coats are water repellent instead. If the hangtag will say waterproof, the build must match it; otherwise say water repellent and print a reproofing instruction on the care label.

Does the hood need a drawcord?

Not on an adult coat; a back tab or a toggle at the nape tightens the hood without loose cords. If a drawcord is used, give its length and end stops. For a children's version, EN 14682 restricts cords in the hood, so use a tab there.
