- Cross height
- The distance from the back neck point down to where the straps meet, per size. A cross set too low opens the back; set too high, it drags on the neck.
- Strap grading
- How far the strap position moves at the shoulder as sizes climb, graded separately from the chest. Chest grading alone pushes the strap outward on large sizes.
- Binding
- Self binding, folded binding with elastic inside, or a turned edge. Elastic inside the binding helps a narrow strap grip the shoulder in movement.
- Strap join
- How the straps meet at the cross: overlapped and stitched, bar tacked, or set into a small yoke. This is where a racerback fails first under strain.
- Fabric and recovery

- ISO 12945-2
- Pilling by the modified Martindale method. Bag straps and bra straps rub the racerback at the shoulder, so ask for a grade on the bulk fabric.
