The school polo is the everyday top of primary uniform lists and of many secondary summer lists: a short sleeve pique polo in the school colour with the crest on the chest. Uniform suppliers, schoolwear retailers and schools buying direct order it every year in the same shade. A school polo shirt manufacturer in Bangladesh is judged on three things a parent sees: the colour after washing, the collar and the crest.

Garments Hub BD sends the polo, crest file and size curve to two knit plants on its bench that run uniform programmes, and both quotes state the pique blend, weight and crest stitch count. Keep the approved shade standard and crest file, and next year's order is checked against the same references.

Kinds of school polo shirt

Poly cotton pique polos

Usually 65/35 or 50/50 polyester and cotton pique, the uniform standard. It holds colour and shape through hot washes and dries overnight, which is why most school lists name it.

Cotton rich pique polos

Cotton or cotton rich pique for schools that ask for natural fibre or for younger children with sensitive skin. Softer and cooler, but it fades and shrinks more, so shade and fit are tested after hot washing.

Girls' fitted polos

A girls' block with a shaped side seam, shorter placket and sometimes a rounded collar, graded on the same size run as the boys' polo. Its own pattern, never the boys' polo taken in.

Twin pack polos

Two polos of one colour and size folded on a card in one polybag, the common retail format. Both shirts in a pack must come from one dye lot.

Long sleeve school polos

The winter list version, with rib cuffs and graded sleeves, chosen where pupils wear the polo without a jumper from autumn. It has its own page and shares the pique, collar and crest, so both run in one programme on one dye lot.

How to specify a school polo shirt

Pique, blend and weight
Single or double pique, the blend and the weight, usually 180 to 220 GSM. The light end suits warm classrooms; the heavy end wears longer and shows less through white.
School colour
A physical shade standard or last year's polo, the approval light and the tolerance. Body, collar and cuff are knitted and dyed separately, so they are approved together.
Crest
Crest width, usually 5 to 8 cm on the left chest, its distance from shoulder seam and placket, thread colours against the thread card, and the stitch count.
Size run
From 3 to 4 years up to 13 to 14 years, then adult sizes if the list continues, with chest and body length per size and the quantity curve.
Collar and placket
A flat knit collar finished firm so the points stay down, a two button placket on small sizes and three on older ones, and buttons a young child can fasten.
Care and name label
A care label stating the wash temperature the shade was tested at, and a write-in name label if the school asks for one.

Tests for a school polo shirt manufacturer in Bangladesh

ISO 105-C06
Colour fastness to washing, run at the temperature the care label will carry, 60 °C on most school lists, and graded for shade change and staining. Navy, bottle green and red polos are where a weak dye fades and marks white shirts in the same load.
ISO 12945-1
Pilling by the pilling box method. Polyester rich pique pills at the underarm and where a school bag rubs, so ask for a grade on the bulk pique after the stated cycles.
ISO 5077 with ISO 6330
Dimensional change after washing. On a school polo, body length matters most, because a polo that shortens rides up and comes untucked.
US CPSIA
For US sizes for age 12 and under: total lead at most 100 ppm in any accessible part, buttons included, and 90 ppm in paint or surface coatings, third party testing at a CPSC accepted laboratory, a permanent tracking label and a Children's Product Certificate.

What moves the price of a school polo shirt

  • Blend: cotton rich pique costs more than poly cotton and needs more care in finishing.
  • Weight within the 180 to 220 GSM range, and double pique over single.
  • Crest stitch count and the number of thread colours.
  • A tipped collar in school colours, knitted into the collar and cuff.
  • Twin packs: card, collar support, polybag and pack barcode.

Lead time for school polo shirts

A school polo in a stock pique colour is the quicker route; a school colour dyed to a standard adds lab dip rounds for body, collar and cuff together. The crest is digitised and stitched out on the bulk pique before the PP sample. Uniform orders must land before the start of term, so the latest PP sign off date is set from the in store date and shown on the quote.

What we check on school polo shirts before shipment

  • Body and collar shadeBody, collar and cuffs compared in a light box against the school standard, since separately dyed parts can drift apart.
  • Crest position by sizeCrest measured from shoulder seam and placket on small, middle and large sizes against the agreed tolerance.
  • Collar after a hot washA polo from bulk washed at the care label temperature, then the collar points checked for curling.
  • Girls' and boys' blocksCartons checked for the right block in each size, since a girls' 9 to 10 and a boys' 9 to 10 carry the same size number.

Questions buyers ask about school polo shirts

What fabric weight should a school polo be?

Usually 180 to 200 GSM for primary polos worn in warm classrooms, and 200 to 220 GSM where the polo is worn year round or by older pupils. Heavier pique wears longer and shows less through a white polo, but it is warmer and slower to dry.

Will the school colour hold through 60 degree washes?

It should if the dye suits the fibre and the shade is tested hot. Ask for ISO 105-C06 at 60 °C on the bulk pique in each school colour, graded for staining as well as shade change. Reds and bright greens are where a weak dye shows first.

Can girls' and boys' polos share one order?

Yes, as two styles on one size run, sharing pique, colour and crest. Each has its own pattern and fit sample, and the quote shows how each factory counts the minimum across the two. Label them clearly, because the size numbers match.

Is a twin pack worth it for school polos?

For retail, usually. Parents buy several polos at once, and a twin pack is often priced lower per shirt than two singles. It adds a card, a collar support and a pack barcode, and both polos must come from one dye lot, so plan colour quantities in pairs.
