The V-neck tee is the round neck's body with a different neckline: men's basics worn under an open shirt, women's fashion tees with a deeper V, and undershirts cut low enough to stay hidden. Because the rest of the garment matches a crew, a buyer briefing a V-neck T-shirt manufacturer in Bangladesh should spend the specification on the V itself: its depth, its rib and the way the point is sewn.
Garments Hub BD asks both factories to quote the same V construction, because a crossover V is quicker to sew than a mitre and a quote can look cheaper for that reason alone. The fit sample is judged at the point first, and inline inspection follows the V operation, where rework on this garment tends to start.
Kinds of V-neck T-shirt
Mitred V
The two rib ends are joined at the point with a short seam down the centre, forming a crisp mitre. Tidy and symmetrical, it is the usual build for retail basics and needs a skilled operator.
Crossover V
One rib end laps over the other at the point and is stitched down. Quicker to sew and forgiving of small errors, it suits undershirts, multipacks and sporty tees, with a softer point.
Deep V
A V that drops well below the chest line, common on women's fashion tees. A narrow rib or binding keeps the long edges from rolling, and a stay at the point stops it opening further.
Bound V
No rib: a self fabric binding folded over the V edge and cover stitched. Flatter and lighter than rib on fine jersey, but it stretches less and the point needs careful clipping.
How to specify a V-neck T-shirt
- V depth
- Measure from the high point shoulder straight down to the point. Adult men's V-necks usually run 14 to 19 cm deep; women's fashion V-necks go deeper.
- Neck width
- Seam to seam across the top. A wide neck with a deep V opens the chest; a narrow neck keeps the V upright and close.
- Rib width at the V
- Usually narrower than a crew rib, about 1.2 to 1.8 cm, because a wide rib bunches where it turns sharply at the point.
- Point construction
- Name mitred or crossover, and whether a small stay or bar tack reinforces the point. Without one the V can creep lower with wear.
- Grade of the depth
- Say how much the V deepens per size, usually 0.5 to 1 cm. A V that does not grow looks shallow on large sizes; one that grows too fast plunges.
- Symmetry tolerance
- Both arms of the V should match in length and rib width, usually within 0.5 cm, with the point on the centre front.
Testing at a V-neck T-shirt manufacturer in Bangladesh
- ISO 16322
- Spirality after washing. Body twist drags the point of a V off the centre front, so a skew that passes unnoticed on a crew is plain to see here.
- ISO 5077 with ISO 6330
- Dimensional change in washing. Uneven shrinkage between rib and body puckers the mitre, so wash a finished V-neck as well as the fabric.
- ISO 2859-1
- The AQL tables behind final inspection. Agree in writing that an off centre or puckered point is a major defect, judged at AQL 2.5 unless you set a stricter level.
What moves the price of a V-neck T-shirt
- A mitred point takes more sewing time and skill than a crossover, and both cost more than a crew.
- A stay tape or bar tack at the point adds an operation to every piece.
- Deep women's V-necks with narrow binding need slower sewing and careful pressing.
- Rework at the point is priced into the line, and a tight symmetry tolerance raises it.
- A contrast rib at the V needs its own dye lot and shade approval.
Lead time for V-neck T-shirts
A V-neck runs on the same fabric plan as a crew, so knitting and dyeing take the same time. The V operation is slower on the line, and a new style may need a second fit sample to settle the depth and the point, which adds days before the PP sample. Deep and bound V styles in fine jersey are slower again. The sample rounds you should expect are shown on the quote.
What we check on V-neck T-shirts before shipment
- Point on centreThe point is checked against the centre front fold; a point that drifts to one side counts as a major defect.
- Mitre flat and closedThe mitre is checked for pucker, a hole at the point and raw rib ends showing on the face.
- Arms equalBoth sides of the V are measured from shoulder seam to point and must match within the agreed tolerance.
- Depth per sizeV depth is measured on each size against the graded specification before packing.
Questions buyers ask about V-neck T-shirts
How deep should a men's V-neck T-shirt be?
Adult men's V-necks usually measure 14 to 19 cm from the high point shoulder to the point. Near the lower end reads as a basic; deeper is a fashion choice. For an undershirt, measure the shirt it goes under and keep the V below its open collar.
Mitred or crossover V for a basic range?
Mitred if the tee is sold on its own and the neckline is on show: it looks sharper and more finished. Crossover if price and speed matter, or the tee is an undershirt or multipack item. Ask both quotes on the same build, since the price gap between the two is real.
Why does the point of a V-neck pucker?
The rib is stretched unevenly as it is sewn round the point, the point is clipped too deep or too shallow, or rib and body shrink by different amounts. A skilled operator, a stay at the point and matched shrinkage fix most of it. Pressing can hide puckering, so check a washed sample.
Is a deep V on a women's tee finished with rib or binding?
Either works. A narrow rib gives some recovery and a sporty look; a self fabric binding is flatter and suits fine, drapey jersey. On a deep V both need a stay at the point and an edge cut slightly short, so the neckline hugs the body rather than gaping.
