Kinds of baby towel
Hooded square towels
A square of terry with a triangle sewn across one corner as a hood, usually 75 to 90 centimetres square. The standard newborn to toddler bath towel and the base of most gift sets.
Character hooded towels
The hood carries ears, a face or an animal shape in applique or embroidery. Every part is stitched down; buttons, beads and glued pieces stay off a baby product.
Hooded bath ponchos
A poncho with a hood and arm openings for toddlers who can stand, sized by age band. It stays on a moving child, but graded sizes add pattern and label work.
Bamboo blend baby towels
Cotton terry blended with viscose from bamboo for the smooth, cool feel many parents ask for. It is labelled as viscose and needs a gentler wash than all cotton terry.
Muslin lined towels
Terry on one side and cotton muslin on the other, lighter and quicker to dry, a frequent choice for warm climates and summer gift ranges.
How to brief a baby towel manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Terry and weight
- Name combed cotton or a bamboo viscose blend and the GSM, usually 350 to 450 for baby towels, lighter than adult towels so they wrap easily and dry quickly.
- Size and age band
- Give the square size for hooded towels and graded sizes by age for ponchos, with a hood depth that fits a head of that age.
- Hood and applique
- Ask for embroidered eyes instead of buttons, appliques satin stitched all round, and no glue or loose ribbon anywhere on the hood.
- Trim policy
- State that no metal, beads or detachable parts are used, and that thread ends are trimmed short so no loop can catch a finger.
- Markets and age
- Name the markets and the age the towel is sold for, since a US children's product needs testing and labels that an adult towel does not.
- Gift packaging
- Describe the box, ribbon, hanger or window pack and what the set holds, such as a hooded towel with washcloths, so packing is costed with the towel.
Tests and certificates for baby towels
- OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100
- Product class I covers articles for babies, with tighter limits than the class for adult towels. Ask for a class I certificate whose scope covers the terry, sewing thread, applique fabric and printed parts.
- US CPSIA
- For children's products 12 and under: lead at most 100 ppm in accessible parts and 90 ppm in coatings, a tracking label, a CPSC accepted laboratory and a Children's Product Certificate. Lead testing falls on prints and trims, not dyed terry.
- GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard)
- For an organic claim: the organic grade needs at least 95 percent certified organic fibre, and made with organic at least 70 percent. The chain of custody must reach the factory that sews your towel.

- Appliques and embroidery: ears, faces and stitched outlines add sewing time to every piece.
- Certification: class I certified materials and GOTS yarn cost more than standard terry.
- Ponchos graded by age band, which need more patterns and size labels than one square.

- US testing at a CPSC accepted laboratory for each print and trim.
Lead time for baby towels
A plain hooded baby towel sample usually takes 7 to 14 days; character hoods with appliques and embroidery sit at the long end. Bulk baby towels usually follow 30 to 60 days after the pre-production sample is approved. Third party CPSIA testing, a class I certificate check and printed gift boxes can each add days, so start them alongside the sample; the quote confirms the dates.

Questions buyers ask about baby towels
Which OEKO-TEX class does a baby towel need?
Product class I, the class for articles for babies and toddlers up to 36 months. Its limits are tighter than class II, which covers adult towels. Ask for the certificate number and check that the scope covers towels and appliques, not only the yarn.
Are ears and appliques safe on a baby towel?
They can be, if every part is stitched down all round, eyes and noses are embroidered rather than buttons, and nothing is glued. Each piece should pass a pull test at inspection. Keep appliques back from the hood edge, where a baby can reach them with its mouth.
Cotton or bamboo blend for baby towels?
Combed cotton is the durable, easy wash choice and is simple to certify organic. A bamboo viscose blend feels smoother and cooler and sells well in gift ranges, but it is weaker when wet and must be labelled as viscose. Both can be certified to OEKO-TEX product class I.
Can baby towels be packed as gift sets?
Yes. Common sets pair a hooded towel with two or three washcloths, folded in a box, rolled with a ribbon or hung on a hanger. Packaging artwork, inserts and box sizes are approved with the sample, so the pack fits the towel and the carton.
