Chino shorts are cut from the same cotton twill as chino trousers, usually in a lighter summer weight, and stop above the knee. The inseam defines the product: a 5 inch short sits at mid thigh for a younger, fashion customer, 7 inches is the mainstream length, and 9 inches reaches towards the knee for a classic or older buyer. A chino shorts manufacturer in Bangladesh treats each length as its own pattern with its own size chart.
Shorts often ride on a trouser programme in the same twill and shades. Garments Hub BD can send both as one enquiry to the same two factories, so fabric and lab dips are shared and the quote sheet shows both styles together. Buyers in Dhaka for the season can meet the desk in Banani to go through the range.
Kinds of chino shorts
5 inch chino shorts
About 12.7 cm of inseam, ending at mid thigh. A fashion and resort length; it needs shallow front pocket bags so they do not show below the hem.
7 inch chino shorts
About 17.8 cm of inseam, ending well above the knee. The volume length for most menswear ranges and the one to sample first.
9 inch chino shorts
About 22.9 cm of inseam, close to the knee. Chosen for classic, golf and travel ranges, and for a customer who wants more coverage.
Pull-on chino shorts
Chino twill with an elastic or drawcord waist and no fly. A relaxed holiday style that drops the zip and button and sizes S to XXL.
Briefing a chino shorts manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Inseam per style
- 5, 7 or 9 inches, or the centimetre figure, measured after washing. Half an inch wrong on a short shows more than a full inch on a trouser.
- Leg opening
- Measured flat. Too wide and the shorts flare and look boxy; too narrow and they ride up when the wearer sits.
- Hem finish
- Plain turned hem, a stitched turn up of usually 2.5 to 4 cm, or a raw edge. Each needs a different allowance in the pattern.
- Front pocket bag depth
- Short inseams leave little room. Give the bag depth so it finishes above the hem on the 5 inch length.
- Cloth weight
- Usually 180 to 240 GSM twill. Matching the trouser's weight saves a fabric booking but feels heavy in hot markets.
- Sizing system
- Inch waists or S to XXL. Alpha sizing shrinks the grid and changes the ease in the pattern, so say which.
Tests for chino shorts
- ISO 105-E04
- Perspiration fastness, on the 1 to 5 grey scale. Shorts are worn in heat against sweat, so bright and pastel shades should hold without marking.
- AATCC 61
- The US accelerated laundering test for washing fastness. Summer brights are where a weak dye shows first, so US buyers often ask for it per shade.
- Better Cotton
- A cotton farming programme rather than a product test. It works on mass balance by default, so ask for Physical BCI Cotton if the cotton itself must be traceable.
What moves the price of chino shorts
- Cloth per piece falls with the inseam, so a 5 inch uses less twill than a 9 inch.
- A stitched turn up adds length, pressing and tacking to every leg opening.
- Elastic or drawcord waists on pull-on styles, against a zip fly and button.
- Many summer colours in small quantities, each needing its own lab dip.
- Sharing twill and shades with a trouser order spreads the mill minimum across both.
Lead time for chino shorts
Shorts sample quickly once a trouser block exists: 7 to 14 days per sample, with each inseam approved as its own fit. Bulk for shorts takes 30 to 60 days from PP approval. Summer ranges run to a fixed date, so book the fabric with the trouser twill; a separate dye lot just for the shorts adds days.
What we check on chino shorts before shipment
- Inseam per lengthThe 5, 7 and 9 inch styles each measured against their own chart, so lengths are never mixed in packing.
- Pocket bag below the hemOn the shortest lengths the front pocket bag must finish above the hem and never show at the leg opening.
- Leg opening matchBoth openings the same width, so the shorts hang evenly instead of flaring on one side.
- Size label and polybag stickerEach length carries its inseam on the size label and the polybag sticker so a store cannot mix them.
Questions buyers ask about chino shorts
Which inseam should we start a chino shorts range with?
Usually 7 inches. It suits the widest group of customers and photographs well on most models. Add a 5 inch for a younger or fashion line and a 9 inch for a classic or golf customer, each with its own fit sample and colour quantities.
Can chino shorts be cut from our trouser fabric?
Yes, if the trouser twill is light enough for summer. Ordering both from one fabric booking helps meet the mill minimum and keeps shades matched across trousers and shorts. A 280 GSM trouser twill makes a stiff, warm short.
Should chino shorts have a turn up hem?
It depends on the look. A stitched turn up of 2.5 to 4 cm reads preppy; a plain hem is cleaner and cheaper. A raw edge suits a washed, casual range but must be stay stitched so it does not fray past the design line.
Do chino shorts sell in waist sizes or S to XXL?
Both. Fly front shorts with a set waistband usually follow inch waists like the trouser. Pull-on styles with elastic suit alpha sizes. Mark which on the chart, since it changes the pattern ease and the grid the factory prices.
