A fleece jacket is a finished garment built from brushed polyester knit: a full or half zip front, a stand collar, bound or hemmed edges and zipped pockets. Outdoor brands sell it as a mid layer, and companies and schools hand it out with a logo. A fleece jacket manufacturer in Bangladesh is judged less on the cloth than on what is done with it: a straight front, matched trims and a shade that holds from lot to lot.
Bulk fleece is knitted, dyed, brushed and sheared at composite knit mills that work by the dye batch and rarely take small lots. Garments Hub BD asks both quoting factories to name the fleece source, whether your colour is a mill stock shade or a batch dyed for you, and the pilling grade they will meet.
Kinds of fleece jacket
Full zip fleece jacket
The core body: a centre front zip to a stand collar, two zipped hand pockets and often a chest pocket. Worn as a mid or outer layer, and the style corporate and school buyers order most for a chest logo.
Half zip fleece pullover
A short zip from the collar, pulled on over the head, with a kangaroo or single zipped pocket. Fewer parts and a lower price than a full zip, and a common team and promotional piece.
Fleece vest
A sleeveless body with bound armholes and a full zip, worn over a shirt or under a shell. It uses less fleece and fewer operations, so it often sits at the low price end of a fleece range.
Microfleece mid layer
Thinner fleece, usually 100 to 200 GSM, cut close for layering under a shell. Lighter and quicker to dry than polar fleece, but less warm, and it shows wear and seam lines sooner.
Bonded or lined fleece jacket
Fleece laminated to a windproof membrane, or lined with mesh or taffeta. The extra layer cuts wind and adds structure, and it is one more material to cost, sew and wash test.
Fleece with woven overlays
Woven nylon or polyester panels on shoulders, elbows and pocket edges where packs and straps rub. They add abrasion resistance, and a second fabric to shade match.
How to specify a fleece jacket
- Fleece type and weight
- Polar fleece usually 200 to 300 GSM, anti pill, brushed one or both sides, or microfleece for layering. Give the weight after finishing, since brushing and shearing change it.
- Body and sleeve
- Set in or raglan sleeve, back length, a drop tail hem and the size range. A raglan sleeve sits better under a pack strap; a set in sleeve looks cleaner on a corporate jacket.
- Front zip
- A coil zip, usually size 5 at the front and size 3 on pockets, with a zip garage at the collar. Zip tapes dyed to the fleece colour, or a contrast tape as a design line, each one more shade to approve.
- Edges and hem
- Stretch binding, folded self fabric, or a hem channel with drawcord and toggles. Say whether cuffs are bound or elasticated, and how vest armholes are finished.
- Pockets
- Number, position and zip type, mesh or fleece pocket bags, and any inside stash pocket. Hand pockets set low can clash with a pack hip belt.
- Shade and lot
- State that each jacket is cut from one dye lot, and approve a shade band for lot to lot variation under the light your stores use.
Tests for a fleece jacket manufacturer in Bangladesh
- ISO 12945-2
- Pilling by modified Martindale, graded 1 to 5, where 5 shows no pilling. Buyers usually ask for grade 3 to 4 or better on anti pill polar fleece, tested on the bulk lot.
- ISO 105-C06
- Colour fastness to washing, with staining graded on an adjacent fabric. Dark fleece beside a light binding or contrast panel is where bleeding shows first.
- ISO 105-X12
- Rubbing fastness. Navy and black fleece can mark a light shirt collar or a bag strap, so ask for dry and wet rubbing grades.
What moves the price of a fleece jacket
- Fleece weight and face: heavier fleece brushed on both sides uses more polyester and more finishing.
- A colour dyed for you against a mill stock shade, since composite mills dye fleece by the batch.
- Zips: full zip fronts, zipped pockets and tapes dyed to match add trims and setting time.
- Bonding, a lining or woven overlays, each a second material to cut, sew and match.
- Chest and back logos on corporate and school orders, priced by stitch count and the number of placements.
Lead time for fleece jackets
Proto samples usually take 7 to 14 days in a stock fleece. A colour of your own is knitted, dyed, brushed and anti pill finished as a mill batch, adding days before cutting; bulk usually runs 30 to 60 days after written PP approval. A pilling test on the bulk lot or bonding adds time, and the quote confirms the dates.
What we check on fleece jackets before shipment
- Shade within one jacketBody, sleeves and collar of each sampled jacket compared in daylight for any step between panels from different lots.
- Trims against the fleeceZip tape, binding and drawcord compared with the fleece under store lighting, since each is dyed separately and can drift.
- Front length both sidesLeft and right fronts measured along the zip; a front stretched in sewing ripples and leaves the hem uneven.
- Pilling grade on the bulk lotThe lab grade for fabric from the cut lot checked against the agreed pilling grade before cutting is released.
Questions buyers ask about fleece jackets
Polar fleece or microfleece for a jacket?
Polar fleece for warmth and an outer layer: thicker, loftier and usually anti pill finished. Microfleece for a light layer under a shell: thinner, quicker drying and cheaper, but less warm. Many ranges carry a polar jacket and a microfleece half zip in the same colours.
What pilling grade should anti pill fleece meet?
Usually grade 3 to 4 or better on the 1 to 5 scale, tested on fabric from the bulk lot. Agree the method and the number of rubbing cycles with the lab before ordering, because a grade means little without both. Untreated fleece rarely reaches that level.
Why does the colour change between fleece reorders?
Each reorder is a new dye batch at the mill, and polyester fleece shifts slightly from batch to batch. Approve a shade band with lightest and darkest limits, keep a jacket from the first delivery, and match every reorder to the original standard rather than to the last lot.
Can a fleece jacket be windproof?
Plain fleece lets wind through the knit. A windproof version bonds a membrane behind the face or between two fleece layers, which blocks wind and stiffens the jacket. The bond has to survive washing, so ask for a peel check after a wash test before bulk is approved.
