Kids down jackets, your specification
Made to your tech pack, fabric and colours by a factory matched to the order.
Private label
Your main label, care label, hangtag and polybag. Nominated trims accepted.
A kids down jacket is built like an adult one but sold under childrenswear rules: no cords at the neck, press studs and zips that will not come away in a child's hand, and labels that state the age band. A kids down jacket manufacturer in Bangladesh grades fill, baffles and trims down to small sizes, and has to know whether the jacket is for the EU, the US or both, because the rules and the tests differ.
Garments Hub BD matches the enquiry to factories that hold the certificates your market asks for, OEKO-TEX for example, and sends it to two of them. Ask for market specific test reports on the quote form, such as US CPSIA testing, and they are built into the timeline instead of being arranged after bulk.
Kinds of kids down jacket
Baby snowsuit
One piece with fold-over mitts and feet, for babies up to about two years. Snaps allow nappy changes; OEKO-TEX class I for baby articles is the usual request.
Toddler down jacket
Ages two to six, usually with a hood held by press studs that release if caught, and no drawcords anywhere near the neck.
School age down jacket
Ages seven to fourteen, built more like an adult jacket, often with reflective trim. Any drawcord stays within the EN 14682 limits for older children.
Kids down vest
Sleeveless, for layering under a school coat. Fewer trims and a lower price point than a jacket.
How to specify a kids down jacket
- Age band and market
- Ages, sizes, and whether the jacket sells in the EU, the US or both. That decides the cord rules, the testing and the labels.
- Hood and neck
- EN 14682 allows no drawstrings in the hood and neck area for young children. Say how the hood attaches and how it releases.
- Press studs and zips
- Stud type, zip puller type and the pull force each must hold, often from your own test manual. A chin guard at the zip top stops pinching.
- Small parts
- List every part that could come off: toggles, zip pullers, badges. For children under three, small detachable parts are a choking risk.
- Fill by size
- Fill grams graded by size rather than one figure for the range. A size 2 needs far less down than a size 14.
- Certification
- RDS for an animal welfare claim, and the OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 product class that fits the age band.
Rules a kids down jacket manufacturer in Bangladesh must meet
- EN 14682
- EU rules on cords and drawstrings in children's clothing: none in the hood and neck for young children, and limits on cord length and free ends for older ones.
- US CPSIA
- For children 12 and under: total lead at most 100 ppm in accessible parts and 90 ppm in paint or coatings, a tracking label, third party testing and a Children's Product Certificate.
- OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100
- Harmful substance testing in four product classes. Class I, for baby articles, is the strictest and fits snowsuits and baby jackets.
- RDS (Responsible Down Standard)
- Animal welfare in the down supply, with no live plucking or force feeding. The certificate usually asked for behind a welfare claim on a children's tag.
What moves the price of a kids down jacket
- Third party testing for CPSIA or a retailer's own standards on each style.
- Safety trims: break-away hood studs, covered zip tops and tested press studs.
- Fill weight, lower per piece but graded across a wide run of sizes.
- Small sizes, where cutting and filling time per gram of down is higher.
- Reflective trims, and certified down with its paperwork.
Lead time for kids down jackets
Samples take 7 to 14 days per round, and bulk for a kids range runs 30 to 60 days after PP approval. Third party testing for CPSIA, EN 14682 checks or OEKO-TEX certification adds lab days, so book them as soon as the PP sample is approved. Grading fill across a wide size range can need an extra sample round.
What we check on kids down jackets before shipment
- Stud and puller pullPress studs and zip pullers pulled to the force in the buyer's test manual; none may loosen or come away.
- Hood and neck cordsNo drawstrings in the hood or neck on young children's sizes, and older sizes checked against cord length limits.
- Zip top guardA zip garage or chin guard covers the top of the zip so it cannot pinch the chin.
- Tracking labelA permanent US tracking label, legible, carrying the batch and date details the buyer specifies.
Questions buyers ask about kids down jackets
Which age bands do kids down jackets come in?
Usually baby up to 24 months, toddler 2 to 6, and school age 7 to 14. EN 14682 splits its cord rules at around age 7. Name the bands you need so the factory builds hood and trims to the right rules.
What rules apply in the EU and the US?
In the EU, EN 14682 on cords and drawstrings, and REACH limits on restricted substances. In the US, CPSIA: lead limits, a tracking label, third party testing and a Children's Product Certificate. A jacket sold in both markets needs both sets.
Can we use RDS down in a children's range?
Yes. RDS covers animal welfare in the down supply and suits children's ranges that make a welfare claim. The down, the filling factory and the chain between them must be certified, and the claim must match the certificate.
Where does lead testing fall on a down jacket?
On the trims. Dyed and undyed textiles are determined not to exceed the CPSIA lead limit, so testing falls on metal studs, zip pullers, prints and coatings. Choose trims early so the tests run on the parts that go into bulk.
