Leather shopper bags, your specification
Made to your tech pack, fabric and colours by a factory matched to the order.
Private label
Your main label, care label, hangtag and polybag. Nominated trims accepted.
A shopper is a tote with the structure taken out: a soft hide, an open top, little or no lining and plain edges. The leather is most of the bag and the make is light, which lets a label sell good hide without a heavy build. Fashion and lifestyle brands buy it, often under the name tote purse. A leather shopper bag manufacturer in Bangladesh earns its quote on hide selection.
No shopper unit has been vetted by Garments Hub BD yet. The desk takes a reference hide and your drawing to units that work soft milled leather, visits them, and replies within 5 working days with a real quote or a straight no. Because the hide is the product, the agreed hand feel and mark standard go into the inspection brief.
Kinds of leather shopper bag
Unlined shopper
A single layer of soft hide with a finished flesh side inside. Lighter and quicker to make than a lined bag, and hide quality shows on both faces.
Half lined shopper with a pouch
An unlined body plus a zipped pouch on a leather tether for keys and cards. The pouch is the only lined part, so the bag stays soft and light.
Folded edge shopper
Edges skived, turned and stitched for a clean finish. More hand work than raw edges, and a softer, rounder look along the mouth and handles.
Tote purse
A smaller shopper with one inside pocket, carried by hand or on the shoulder. The same product under the name many buyers type into a search box.
How to specify a leather shopper bag
- Hide and hand feel
- Soft chrome tanned, drum milled hide, usually 0.9 to 1.2 mm. Send a reference piece for hand feel, because softness has no single number.
- Where the panels come from
- Body panels from the firm centre of the hide, not the belly, which stretches and lets a shopper sag out of shape.
- Flesh side
- On an unlined bag the reverse is on show. Ask for it sanded and sealed so it does not shed fibres onto clothes.
- Edges
- Raw cut, lightly burnished, or skived and folded. Raw is fastest; folded looks finished and costs more labour.
- Handle reinforcement
- Soft hide stretches under load, so ask for a non-stretch tape laminated inside each handle, with the finished length stated.
- Size and drop
- Width, height and base in millimetres, and the handle drop needed for the bag to go on the shoulder.
Tests to agree with a leather shopper bag manufacturer in Bangladesh
- REACH Annex XVII, entry 47
- On an unlined shopper the flesh side touches hands and clothes as well as the grain, so test the lot against the 3 mg/kg chromium VI limit for EU buyers.
- REACH Annex XVII, entry 43
- Soft shoppers are often drum dyed right through, so ask for a report on each colour against the 30 mg/kg limit for azo dyes releasing listed amines.
- LWG
- On a bag sold on its hide, the tannery is the supplier that matters most. If a gold, silver, bronze or audited rating is required, start the search from rated tanneries.
What moves the price of a leather shopper bag
- Leather: the hide is most of the cost, so area per bag and strictness of selection lead the price.
- Hide selection: soft, clean hides with few marks are fewer in each batch and dearer.
- Edges: folded edges need skiving and turning, while raw edges need neither.
- Pouch or lining: a tethered pouch adds a zip and a small lined part.
Lead time for leather shopper bags
Shopper samples usually take 14 to 21 days and bulk 45 to 75 days after the PP sample is approved in writing. The make is short, so the hide sets the pace: a soft milled colour dyed to order adds days at the tannery, and sorting hides to a strict mark standard can slow cutting. The quote confirms both dates.
What we check on leather shopper bags before shipment
- Handle stretchHandle length measured, the bag hung with a load, then measured again; growth beyond the agreed limit fails.
- Flesh side cleanThe inside of unlined bags rubbed by hand for loose fibres and checked for even sealing.
- Edge evennessRaw edges cut clean without fraying; folded edges an even width all round.
- Hide areaBody panels checked for soft belly areas and for marks beyond the written standard.
Questions buyers ask about leather shopper bags
Is a leather shopper the same as a tote purse?
Yes. Both names describe the soft, unstructured open top tote with little or no lining. Retailers in some markets list it as a tote purse and in others as a shopper. The specification is the same, so one page and one quote cover both.
Will an unlined shopper shed fibres onto clothes?
Not if the flesh side is finished. A sanded and sealed reverse holds its fibres, while an untreated one can leave fluff on dark clothes for weeks. Before approval, rub the inside of the sample with a dark cloth and look.
Why does a soft shopper cost nearly as much as a structured tote?
Because the saving is in the make and the cost is in the leather. A shopper uses a similar area of hide, often from softer and more carefully chosen skins. Board, feet and lining come out, but they were a small share of the price.
Will shopper handles stretch over time?
Soft leather handles do stretch under a full load unless something stops them. A non-stretch tape laminated inside each handle holds the length. Ask for the sample to carry a few kilograms for a day, then measure the handles again.
