Maternity underwear, your specification
Made to your tech pack, fabric and colours by a factory matched to the order.
Private label
Your main label, care label, hangtag and polybag. Nominated trims accepted.
Maternity underwear covers what is worn during pregnancy and in the months after: briefs that sit over or under the bump, nursing bras with drop cups, and postpartum briefs with a supportive panel. Maternity panties are the same product under another search. Buyers are maternity brands, baby and parent retailers and lingerie labels adding a maternity line. A maternity underwear manufacturer in Bangladesh works mainly in soft cotton modal elastane, with no hard elastic against the skin.
Maternity fit cannot be judged on a standard fit model, so Garments Hub BD asks each factory whether it fits on a maternity form and at which month of pregnancy the form is set. Your size chart and bump measurements go into the brief, and nursing clips are listed by material, so a nickel test can be planned when they are metal.
Kinds of maternity underwear
Over bump briefs
A high rise brief with a wide, soft front panel that stretches over the bump, usually in cotton modal elastane. The panel takes the growth; the leg and seat are cut like a full brief.
Under bump briefs
A low rise brief or bikini with a wide soft waistband that sits below the bump. Simpler to make, and wearable before and after pregnancy.
Nursing bras with drop cups
Wire free bras whose cups unclip at the strap and fold down for feeding, with an inner sling holding the bra in place. The clip is the part to specify with the most care.
Postpartum support briefs
High waist briefs with a firmer front panel, worn in the weeks after birth. Any recovery or support wording is the buyer's claim; the factory makes to fabric and measurements.
How to brief a maternity underwear manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Waistband
- A wide fold over or knitted band with soft elastic, or no elastic at all across the front. Give the width and the stretch.
- Fabric
- Cotton modal or cotton elastane, soft and breathable, with weight and elastane share. Print the care label at the waist instead of sewing a stiff one.
- Grading
- Grade on the hip rather than the waist, since customers buy by their usual size while the waist changes month by month. State the logic of your size chart.
- Fit form
- Which maternity form or fit model, and at which month of pregnancy, for the bump panel. Over bump briefs need checking at two stages.
- Nursing clips
- Clip type, plastic or metal, one hand release, and how it is sewn to the strap and the cup.
- Support panel
- For postpartum briefs, the panel fabric, its size and firmness, and your claim wording.
Tests and rules for maternity underwear
- OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100
- A harmful substances test on the finished article and a sensible baseline for products worn through pregnancy and feeding. Ask for a certificate covering fabric, elastic and clips.
- REACH Annex XVII, entry 27
- Metal nursing clips and strap adjusters touch skin for hours, so their nickel release has to stay within the EU limit of 0.5 micrograms per square centimetre per week. Plastic clips avoid the question.
- ISO 105-E04
- Perspiration fastness, graded 1 to 5, for fabrics worn close to the skin for long hours during pregnancy.
What moves the price of maternity underwear
- Wide soft waistbands and front panels, which use more fabric and sewing than a standard brief.
- Nursing clips and slings on nursing bras, bought in per piece.
- Cotton modal fabric, which costs more than cotton elastane.
- Fit sampling on a maternity form, often over more than one round.
- Size range and quantity per size, usually smaller for a maternity line.
Lead time for maternity underwear
Maternity underwear samples in 7 to 14 days a round, and bulk typically runs 30 to 60 days after PP approval. Over bump briefs and nursing bras usually need an extra fit round on a maternity form, and nursing clips bought in from a trim supplier can add days. The quote confirms each step.
What we check on maternity underwear before shipment
- Front panel stretchThe over bump panel stretched to its full design width and released, with no seam cracking or loss of recovery.
- Nursing clipEach clip opens with one hand, closes securely and is sewn so the cup cannot come away at the strap.
- No hard elasticWaistbands checked against the spec for soft or covered elastic, with no exposed hard elastic at the front.
- Hip measurementsHip measured on every size against the grade, since that is how maternity sizes are chosen.
Questions buyers ask about maternity underwear
Over bump or under bump briefs?
Most ranges carry both. Over bump suits later pregnancy and gives coverage and light support; under bump suits the early months and the time after birth, and is simpler to make. If you start with one, under bump is worn for longer by each customer.
Can postpartum briefs make medical claims?
Keep claims to fabric and fit: soft, high waisted, a supportive panel. Medical claims such as aiding recovery are a regulatory matter in most markets, and a garment test does not support them. Agree the wording with your compliance team before printing.
How are maternity sizes graded?
On the hip and on the customer's usual size, not on a changing waist. The bump panel is drafted to stretch across the course of a pregnancy, and the waist grade follows the panel. Size labels usually match standard sizes, so customers choose without a new chart.
Plastic or metal clips on nursing bras?
Plastic clips are lighter, avoid the EU nickel release question and are common on soft nursing bras. Metal clips feel firmer and last longer but need a nickel test for the EU. Either way, specify one hand release and sample the clip on the finished cup.
