Period panties, your specification
Made to your tech pack, fabric and colours by a factory matched to the order.
Private label
Your main label, care label, hangtag and polybag. Nominated trims accepted.
Period panties replace or back up disposable products with a reusable gusset of three or more layers: a wicking top layer, an absorbent core and a leak resistant barrier. The body is a normal brief, hipster or boyshort. Buyers are period care brands, lingerie labels and retailers building a reusable range. A period panty manufacturer in Bangladesh sews the gusset as a technical component, usually from laminated and absorbent fabrics bought in from specialist mills.
The gusset carries a claim, so Garments Hub BD asks for your absorbency figure and the test method behind it before quoting, and sends the brief only to factories that can source the layers and supply finished pieces to your lab. If no plant on the bench can source your layer stack, you hear a straight no.
Kinds of period panty
Light absorbency
A thinner gusset with one absorbent layer, for light days or as a backup. It looks closest to an everyday brief and costs the least to build.
Moderate absorbency
Two absorbent layers and a longer gusset, the core tier of most ranges and the one to sample first.
Heavy and overnight
More absorbent layers and a gusset that runs further towards the back and the waist. The body is usually a full brief or boyshort to carry the larger gusset.
Brief, hipster and boyshort bodies
One gusset stack can go into several cuts. Larger gussets suit the brief and boyshort; hipster and bikini bodies suit the light tier.
How to brief a period panty manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Layer stack
- Each layer's fibre, weight and job: wicking top, absorbent core, barrier. Send the stack from your developed sample, or approve one the factory proposes.
- Absorbency claim
- Your figure, such as a capacity in millilitres per tier, and the test method and lab behind it. The factory builds to it; the claim stays yours.
- Gusset footprint
- Length and width of the absorbent area per tier and per size, and how far it runs up the front and back.
- Edge sealing
- How the gusset edges are finished so fluid cannot wick out at the seams: a sealed or bonded edge, or a seam kept inside the barrier.
- Layer chemistry
- Whether the barrier or core carries any water repellent or antimicrobial finish, named in writing. Many buyers ask for layers with no fluorinated finish.
- Wash durability
- The number of washes through which the gusset must keep its performance, and the care instructions you will print.
- Component source
- Who supplies the laminated barrier and the absorbent fabric, nominated by you or sourced by the factory.
Tests and rules for period panty layers
- AATCC 197
- Vertical wicking, run on the top layer to show it draws fluid away from the surface. It does not measure how much the gusset holds.
- AATCC 195
- Moisture management of the top layer: how fast it takes up liquid and spreads it. Useful for comparing top layer fabrics, not for a capacity claim.
- OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100
- Ask that every layer of the gusset, the barrier film included, is named on the certificate for the finished article, since each one sits against skin for hours.
- REACH Annex XVII, entry 72
- Limits listed CMR substances in textiles touching the skin, formaldehyde at 75 mg/kg among them. It applies to the laminated layers as much as to the body fabric.
What moves the price of a period panty
- The gusset stack: each absorbent layer and the laminated barrier add fabric cost.
- Gusset size by tier, from light to overnight.
- Sewing and sealing operations, far more than on a plain cotton gusset.
- Lab testing for absorbency and wicking claims, quoted per tier.
- Sourcing barrier and core fabrics from a small number of specialist mills.
Lead time for period panties
Period panties sample in 7 to 14 days once the layer fabrics are in hand, and bulk typically runs 30 to 60 days after PP approval. Barrier and absorbent fabrics bought in from a specialist mill can add days or weeks before sampling, and absorbency testing at your lab adds its own turnaround when reports must come before shipment. The quote sets out each step.
What we check on period panties before shipment
- Layer orderGusset layers cut and stacked in the specified order and orientation, wicking face up and barrier face down.
- Barrier integrityBarrier layer checked for needle holes or cuts outside the sealed seam line, where leaks start.
- Edge sealGusset edges sealed or bonded along their full length as specified, with no gaps at the corners.
- Claim labellingHangtags and labels carry the absorbency tier and wording you approved, matching the gusset built into that piece.
Questions buyers ask about period panties
Can the factory test absorbency?
The factory builds to your specification; the absorbency figure comes from the lab and method you choose, run on finished pieces. The wicking tests measure how fluid moves, not how much the gusset holds. Ask the factory to supply finished pieces for testing at sample stage and again from bulk.
Who supplies the leak resistant layer?
Usually a specialist mill that laminates a thin waterproof breathable film to a knit fabric. It is often imported, which sets the lead time. You can nominate your supplier, or approve one the factory sources against your tested sample.
What restricted substances matter in the gusset?
Everything in the layers that touches skin: dyes, finishes and the barrier laminate. Ask for OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 on every layer, check REACH entry 72 for the EU, and get written confirmation of any water repellent or antimicrobial chemistry used.
How many washes should a period panty last?
Set the wash count you will claim and test absorbency and leaks after that many washes. The usual failure points are the barrier peeling from its base fabric and the seal at the gusset edge. Print care advice that protects both, such as a cool wash with no fabric softener.
