A short sleeve shirt is a casual woven shirt cut above the elbow, sold in summer, holiday and resort ranges and as a printed statement piece. Fabric is a separate choice; this page covers the sleeve and the block. A short sleeve shirt manufacturer in Bangladesh can reuse the collar and front of a long sleeve style, but the sleeve finish, the opening width and the boxier body decide whether the shirt looks right.
Garments Hub BD sends your block, sleeve finish and print placement to two factories on its bench, so both price the same make. At the fit sample the sleeve opening is measured alongside chest and length before grading is signed off. A print gets a strike off for colour before the PP sample, and every stage is photographed for you.
Kinds of short sleeve shirt
Camp collar shirt
A one piece collar with no stand that lies open and flat, often with a loop at the neck. Boxy body, straight hem and side vents; the core summer shape.
Cuban collar shirt
Also sold as a revere collar: the front facing folds back into a lapel that runs into the collar, with no top button. Many buyers use camp and cuban for the same collar, so send a sketch.
Printed resort shirt
All over or engineered prints on viscose, cotton or linen, usually with a camp or cuban collar. Placement at the front opening and the pocket is the work.
Casual point collar shirt
A standard collar on a stand, a regular fit and a curved hem. The everyday short sleeve, usually the long sleeve block with a new sleeve.
Boxy cropped shirt
A wide, short body with a dropped shoulder and a wide sleeve ending near the elbow. Fashion led, so the proportions need a proto before the fit stage.
Briefing a short sleeve shirt manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Sleeve finish
- Hemmed with a single or double turn, or a turn back cuff, which on a boxy casual block is usually cut in one with the sleeve and folded, not a separate cuff piece. Give the depth in millimetres.
- Sleeve opening
- Give the width measured flat across the opening, with a tolerance, often half a centimetre either way, and a grade per size. Size charts for short sleeves most often leave it out.
- Sleeve length and shoulder
- Measure sleeve length from the shoulder point. On a dropped shoulder the seam moves down the arm, so state which point the measurement starts from.
- Collar type
- Camp, cuban, point or button down, with collar width and whether there is a stand. Camp and cuban collars take light or no interlining so they lie soft.
- Body and hem
- Give chest ease, body length and hem shape. Boxy shirts are worn untucked, so a straight hem with side vents and a shorter length is usual.
- Print placement
- For prints, send the repeat, the position on the front and whether the pattern must run across the button opening.
Tests for short sleeve shirts
- ISO 105-E04
- Fastness to sweat, read on the grey scales from 1 to 5. Summer shirts are worn in heat, and bright prints and dark grounds can bleed at the underarm onto a lighter vest.
- ISO 105-C06
- Washing fastness on printed cloth. Ask for change and staining grades on the print colours, not only the ground shade.
- FTC Care Labeling Rule (16 CFR 423)
- For the US every shirt needs a care label with reliable instructions. Viscose resort shirts usually need a cool, gentle wash on the label, so set care before testing.
What moves the price of a short sleeve shirt
- A boxy block with a dropped shoulder, which uses more cloth per shirt than a regular fit.
- Engineered prints placed and lined up at the front opening, against an all over print.
- Print method and colour count, with digital print suiting short runs and rotary screen longer ones.
- Collar build: a cuban collar with a full front facing uses more cloth than a camp or point collar.
- Side vents, a chest pocket and pattern matched pockets, each an added operation.
Lead time for short sleeve shirts
Proto and fit samples usually take 7 to 14 days on stock cloth; a print needs a strike off approved for colour first. Bulk short sleeve shirts usually take 30 to 60 days after the PP sample is approved in writing. Prints made to order add printing days before cutting, and a placed print adds marker time. Timings for your print are set out in the quote.
What we check on short sleeve shirts before shipment
- Sleeve opening widthMeasured flat on both sleeves of each sampled shirt against the graded figure, since a few millimetres change how the sleeve sits on the arm.
- Shoulder seam positionOn dropped shoulder blocks the seam sits at the same point on both arms against the spec, since it sets where the sleeve length starts.
- Print at the openingThe print is checked across the button opening and at the pocket against the agreed placement and tolerance.
- Collar lieCamp and cuban collars are laid open to check that both sides fall flat and match, with no pull at the neck point.
Questions buyers ask about short sleeve shirts
Camp collar or cuban collar for a resort shirt?
A camp collar for the classic holiday shirt: it lies flat, takes a neck loop and suits bold prints. A cuban collar for a dressier open neck, since the lapel gives the front some shape. Both take little or no interlining, and both are cut without a collar stand.
Can the short sleeve be cut from my long sleeve block?
Yes, for a point or button down style. Keep the body, collar and front, redraft the sleeve shorter with its own opening width and hem, and sew a proto, since a short sleeve shows the armhole shape that a long sleeve hides. Camp and cuban collar shirts need a new front and facing as well, so they are drafted as their own block.
Can one block serve both plain and printed short sleeve shirts?
Yes, and it keeps fit consistent across the range. Approve the block once in a plain cloth, then approve print placement separately on a strike off and a printed sample. If the printed cloth shrinks differently from the plain one, the pattern is adjusted from a washed sample.
Will a viscose short sleeve shirt shrink?
Viscose shrinks and weakens when wet, more than cotton does. Ask for washed fit samples and a care label that suits the fibre, often a cool, gentle wash and line drying. The factory sets the pattern allowance from the washed sample before grading.
